Volvo Names Head of N.A. Operations
Volvo Taps Head of Its Japanese Business to Run North American Operations

DETROIT (AP) -- Ford Motor Co.'s Volvo division said Tuesday it has tapped the head of its Japanese business to run its North American operations.

Dan Werbin, 57, succeeds Mark LaNeve, who last month resigned as president and chief executive of Volvo Cars of North America Inc. to head General Motors Corp.'s ailing Cadillac unit.

Werbin's replacement as head of Volvo's Japanese operations will be Necip Soyak, now executive vice president of Volvo Cars of North America's international business unit. In his newly created position since last month, Soyak has overseen Volvo's Canadian, Mexican and Puerto Rican markets.

Until Werbin eases into his new post, Volvo's North American operations will be run until this year's end by Vic Doolan, executive director of Ford's luxury Premier Automotive Group.

Werbin, who joined Volvo in 1970, has been head of the brand's Japanese business since 1996. His tenure with Volvo includes work in product planning, engineering, sales and executive management.

Before joining Volvo Cars of North America last month, Soyak had held various executive positions with Atlas Copco AB, a Swedish-based developer and maker of electric and pneumatic tools and construction and mining equipment.

Volvo's headquarters are to move later this year from Rockleigh, N.J., to Irvine, Calif.
