I can not stress enough not to use them .
Simpley the largest theiving company in History.
Do not belive the LIES from Terry ****.
DONT

THIS JUST OF AS TODAY
Lord_Devlin

View Member Profile
Add as Friend
Send Message
Find Member's Topics
Find Member's Posts
Today, 07:45 PM Post #228

Newbie

Group: Members
Posts: 3
Member No.: 30747
Hey all. I have an update on my situation with Volvo Motorsports. I hired a Machine Shop to disassemble the block on write me out a report of there findings. Here's what they found:
"2000 1.9 V-40 Volvo Short Block
2000 1.9 V-40 Volvo Short Block
On March 17th 2009 Mr. Watts brought us his assembled V-40 Volvo engine to Ellsworth Machine. He asked us to disassemble and inspect the engine. Here’s what we found…
A first glance, I can see the tops of all 4 pistons were polished. As I rotate the pistons up and down in the bore large deep scratches are now visible at the top of the cylinders (see pics). The deep scratches in the bore together with the wrong cylinder wall finish will not allow the piston rings to seal…(First problem). I have now disassembled the entire short block.
The pistons are New std. bore (3.266 in.) Mahle cast (not aftermarket forged). The cylinder bore is a used std. bore and has not been machined. A stone ball hone was used to finish the cylinder walls (240 grit finish). The piston rings are new with a chrome top and a cast iron second ring. In order for the rings to seal properly a 400 grit finish on the cylinder walls in necessary. The pistons have .0035 in. to .0055 in. piston to wall clearance. The new Volvo piston clearance spec is .0004 in. to .0012. So, the bore is too large and too tapered for proper piston ring seal.
The connecting rods are new but have no brand name or part number on them. The rod and main bearings are also new. The crankshaft is a used forged welded up stroker Volvo shaft. The welded rod journals are machined offset to create an increased stroke length. The engine block appears to be a stock std. bore V-40 in an unusable bore and sold as a new rebuilt Volvo stroker. It’s the opinion of this machine shop, if the engine was placed in the car and started as is…large amounts of oil smoke and increased oil consumption would have been a problem.
Ellsworth Machine Shop
2415 Old Middlefield Way
Mountain View, Ca 94043
(650)968-7884"
I also have numerous photos that the machine shop has taken to back up what they wrote in the report.
So as you can see, Volvo Motorsports did not assemble the block correctly and neither did they give me the pistons I was promised. The rods appear to be forged and the machine shop tested them and they appear to be good. However, I have no idea what brand they are or where they came from.
On a more interesting note, it appears Terry **** does still in fact read this forum and others like it, although he no longer posts for obvious reasons. I received an email from him late last week concerning my short block and my various forum posting about this topic. Here's the email:
Hi Luke, The short block that i sent you has been stroked and heat treated to add strength that is what gives it the dark color. The stroke was increse from 90mm to 93.2mm and the rods are forged 4340 chromoly steel and are a longer rod. The stock rods are 139.5mm and those are 145mm. The pistons are a hyperutectic piston from a S60R. You might have notice small lines in the cylinders but these are below the actual compression line so they will not hurt a thing. This will make you one bad ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD engine if you just use it. I noticed your post on volvospeed and when you have questions all you have to do is call. Your engine size is now 2018cc
I'll be forwarding this new information to the BBB.

-Luke

Seriouls Please Please do your reasearch when buying from Companies for your volvo parts.
