Hi,
My dealer has 6-8 weeks lead time for scheduled service, so I'm thinking about taking my S60 to an independent mechanic. Can anyone recommend a good person/shop in northern or central NJ?
Thanks,
-ema

i wouldn't consider bringing your car to an independent. the S60 has an extremely sophisticated electronic system that is best left to an authorized dealer. an independent shop will not have the VADIS system, which is what volvo dealers use to communicate and diagnose cars. volvo offers a VADIS-like system to independents on the web, but it is extremely expensive and it is more than likely not in a lot of shops.

6-8 weeks lead time?
Isn't that slightly unacceptable?
How about finding another dealer..
I has a warranty problem needing immediate attention and my regular dealer told me 4 days. Even this was unacceptable, so I took it to a different dealer who was able to fix the problem within an hour.
Unfortunately the 'gratis' scheduled services can only be done at the dealer who sold you the car, but maybe try reasoning with them.. 6-8 weeks is ridiculous.

Thanks for all the replies! The 6-8 weeks ticked me off, but none of the other dealers in my area were willing to accept new service customers. That is, unless you purchased the car from them. So I'm stuck with my dealer or an independent shop.
Incidentally, when I finally did go for my appointment, the wait was unacceptable. Plus I have a feeling that my 7 qts. Mobil 1 were just pocketed.
I love the car--but I'm not enthralled with the servicing aspect of it.
Cheers,
-ema

quote:
Originally posted by coastal:
6-8 weeks lead time?
Isn't that slightly unacceptable?
How about finding another dealer..
I has a warranty problem needing immediate attention and my regular dealer told me 4 days. Wow, that's surprising. I thought dealers would want to build their client base as opposed to trimming it.
Such short term thinking really bothers me. My guess is that Volvo has seen a recent surge in sales for your area and their infrastructure hasn't yet caught up.
So for now, dealers treat customers like children until either their capacity warrants taking on new work, or sales level off, then it will be back to normal where the consumer has the upper hand.
Frustrating...
