So it looks like the car is going to be offered in 2 different body styles… the rear on the regular 4dr is completely different from the suicide 4dr, which I’ve seen a while ago. Anyone know if the normal 4dr is official yet? Why do I have a gut feeling that Volvo is going to change the body style for the 2011 S40.
This should be the body style for the new S60

This shouldn't be called a S60, Volvo should make a new class for this... Those top ones are old magazine renderings from almost 2 years ago, they do not represent the production car.

Yeah , Besides the Rea Door Opening that would have made the New S60 a Complete Stand Out form the Crowd , It is also Loosing the Hips .
Look Closely at the Rear Door:

The engine is the first to use Volvo's efficient GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) technology. It also uses stratified combustion that allows the engine to operate with a surplus of air, thus reducing fuel consumption. It is mated to a Powershift dual-clutch gearbox, and makes 180 hp.
Volvo says the concept will return an impressive 5.0 l/100 km (47 mpg), but doing so isn't only the work of the new engine and transmission. The car features other eco-goodies such as electric power steering, auto start/stop, and a "DRIVe-Mode." In this mode, fuel consumption is further reduced by shutting off non-essential accessories. The car's body is made of lightweight materials, and flat underbody panels and a grille shutter reduce aerodynamic drag.

the first two pics in the original post are artists renderings from some car magazines. They arent the real thing.
Alex Chan (designer of the S60 concept) says if you squint at the concept you can see the production car.
The most recent info from Lex Kerresmakers (product planning) was that volvo was reconsidering keeping the S40 for certain markets. For example, it is a useful and volume model in emerging markets (china, Russia and India) and is also popular as an entry level model in Europe.
So indeed, there might be a new S40 as well
