Strong performance from the popular Volvo S40 compact and a fast start of sales of the sporty new Volvo S60 were high points in November, helping Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. maintain a 9.4 per cent increase in volume for the first 11 months of calendar year 2000, the company reported today.

Year to date Volvo sales of 114,397 compares to 104,530 vehicles during the same period of 1999. November sales of 10,029 units fell just 2.8 percent short of the 10,317 cars sold in the same period of 1999.

Total North American sales of 10,953 cars in November outpaced the 10,822 units of last year by 1.2 per cent, helped by the 83 per cent surge in sales in Canada (924 vs 505). Year to date North American sales of 122,307 vehicles in calendar 2000 is 9.2 per cent ahead of the 111,998 of 1999.

"Strong November demand for the S40 sedan (ahead 44.6 per cent) and the new S60, as well as the rugged Cross Country, indicate the broad appeal of the new Volvo model line," said Mark LaNeve, president of VCNA. "The popularity of these three cars, in three very different segments, is indication to us that the appeal of the Volvo brand continues to expand across the country."

Volvo Cars of North America is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of Goteborg, Sweden. The company provides marketing, sales, parts, service, technology and training support to the 328 Volvo automobile retailers across the country. The 2001 Volvo automobile line includes the flagship S80 luxury sedan, versatile V70 wagon and rugged Cross Country, C70 coupe and convertible, the sporty, new S60 sedan and compact S40 and V40 models.
