I have Volvo BT kit and Treo650 w/Cingular. Everything is setup and works except for when receiving calls.
Making calls is absolutely no problem using voice commands or dialing from the Treo650.
However, when I get an incoming call and press and release the green phone button on the BT kit's control module it does not pickup the call. If I'm quick I can pickup the call if I answer using the Treo650. If I'm not quick enough (i.e., the Treo is in my pocket and I'm driving) the Treo650 hangs solid and has to be rebooted.
BTW - My Treo650 has latest Software version 1.17 CNG.
Is there a setting on the Volvo BT kit system or on my Treo650 that I'm missing doing ?
Apart from this the BT kit is working very nicely - but NOT being able to receive calls as the BT kit is designed to do is a real bummer at this time.
Any help will be most appreciated. Thanks.

My BT kit automatically answers incoming calls. There is no need to press the green button. Also, most of the time, it automatically ends calls as well.

Re: Volvo BT Kit w/Treo 650 Cingular and receiveing calls (TexasV70R)

Did you configure the BT kit to answer automatically ? If so how did you do this ?
If I do nothing when receiving a call it BT kit system simply rings and rings and rings until the voice mail on my cell service kicks in.
I feel I'm missing a specific config setting but can't figure it out. I sure hope I can get it to work as you describe for your system.
I have noticed that if I connect a B&O headset to phone when in car and a call is received I can asnswer it by clicking the small button on the B&O wire leading to the phone. Pressing the green phone button on the BT control keypad causes my Treo 650 phone's OS to hang solid.
My BT kit system always ends calls automagically also.

I believe the configuration of auto answer is in the phone, not BT.
I have a Motorola V600, which lists this feature.

Re: Volvo BT Kit w/Treo 650 Cingular and receiveing calls (TexasV70R)

OK... after a few hours of researching, backing up my Treo 650's personal data and trying to reinstall my Treo 650's OS (wiping out all my personal info) I've found the solution to my problem.
It appears that the issue is somehow related to the amount of free memory in the Treo or that there's too much info in my Treo's Contact list or the info in the Contact lists (ie international numbers with lots of country codes, city codes, etc etc) is somehow interferring with receiving calls.
After having backed up my personal data and reset the Treo's OS and firmware with latest downloads from Palm (had done this before months back but did it again today) and started with a pristine Treo 650 system without any personal data on it the Treo 650 works pefectly with the Volvo BT kit and I can now receive and pickup incoming calls by pressing the GREEN answer button. Yea...
Now to restore my personal data to see if this breaks things, as I suspect it will. I'll restore pieces at a time to narrow down the offending piece of data.
Thanks for the help Swedespeed.
FYI... Software version is 1.17 CNG and the Firmware version is 1.15 - if this helps others. I used application Missing Sync to upload the Palm software to Treo.

Glad to hear that your cingular version is receiving calls.
Can you make an outgoing call?
My verizon receives calls but is more miss then hit with trying to make out going calls. I've heard of an upgrade (not listed on the PALm Treo site but I cannot find the reference to this).
Attached is an address to another version of the interoperability matrix.
https://tcg.motorola.com/globa...x.pdf
Oz

Re: Volvo BT Kit w/Treo 650 Cingular and receiveing calls (Ozzie)

It appears that the issue is related to the 5 Favorite pages. By not using them everything now works. I can receive and send without issues. In fact, I've configured phone when in car kit mode to answer calls on 2nd ring so my hand has to do nothing when receiving a call.
I love the voice commands of this Volvo BT kit.
"Call Home" does just that.
"Call son" does just that. \
"Call daughter 1" and "Call daughter 2" does the right thing.
"Call Joe Smith" etc etc etc all works perfectly.
This is all done with my Treo 650 left in my pocket - and no wires or nasty ear device.
This took some work to get it right but that's no strange with most modern gadgets.

Re: Volvo BT Kit w/Treo 650 Cingular and receiveing calls (barrysharp)

Hmmmm - still having same issue with receiving calls when I start loading up my contacts list above around 60-80 entries. I'm wondering if somehow my contacts list in the Treo is oversubscribing the BT kit system in some way. Can someone say what info from the Cell phone is transferred to the BT kit system, if any. It appears that something is.
I'm still working on finding the root cause but also know I can make the call receiving feature work with a limited set on contacts on the Treo at this time.

Re: Volvo BT Kit w/Treo 650 Cingular and receiveing calls (barrysharp)

Today, I talked with technical support with Verizon, Motorola, and Palm.
Verizon states that if the 650 pairs with the hands free car kit, they have met their responsibility.
Motorola wants me to use another phone (even though the report some versions of the 650 work with IHF-1000).
Palm states that they have not verified the compatibility of the 650 and the Volvo/Motorola car kit.
I have have contacted the local Verizon tech to see if he knows of any Palm OS smartphones that work. I will also check with a local installer to hear what they think.
Others, on various web sites, report that the 700P works. I also had heard that the Cingular 650 worked. But based on your thread, that is not the case.
Ozzie
Re: Volvo BT Kit w/Treo 650 Cingular and receiveing calls (Ozzie)

I really do like my Treo 650 and if it comes down to it where the Treo 650 is more trouble than it's worth then I might just spring for the 700 model if I can determine it does not have same problems. The Treo 650 does has a limited amount of onboard memory (32MB) whereas the 700 model has lots more - and this is where I think the problems lays wrt the 650 model.
I'm still working on finding a soln for my 650 at this time and can at least use it with a limited set of contacts and Apps loaded.

Re: Volvo BT Kit w/Treo 650 Cingular and receiveing calls (barrysharp)

I talked with Motorola this AM. The IHF-1000 runs on bluetooth version 1.2. The Treo 650 is 1.1
There is no firmware upgrade that puts version 1.2 on the 650.
Since Motorola's own interoperability matrix shows compatibility with a 650, I have asked them for the name of the 650 service provider that they tested.
If I actually hear back from them, I'll post it.
According to the web sites I looked at, the 700p and the 700w are BT v1.2. The local Verizon wireless tech said he knew of it working with the 1000. I may try the 700p but only contingent on it working with my car kit.
Is anyone successfully using the Treo 700's and Volvo's car kit?
I used another phone in the care yesterday to R/O installation error. The car kit is really nice when you use the right phone.
Life should be simpler.
Ozzie

Re: Volvo BT Kit w/Treo 650 Cingular and receiveing calls (Ozzie)

Hmmm - My Treo 650 with Cingular has Bluetooth Manager v. 1.0(W) installed.
At this time I have 11 of my favorite contacts installed in the Treo 650 and a bunch of my needed applications and personal memos. With this my Treo 650 is working perfectly (if it's possible to say this with the limited contact list).
I also have configured about 10 most wanted contacts in the Volvo BT kit system and activate them via voice commands. It works very nicely as well.
I place my Treo in my brief case and place that in the trunk. I then get into car and turn engine on and within a few moments the BT kit announces it's paired up to my phone in the trunk. Not too bad IMO.
I demo-ed the BT kit to my wife and a co-worker and they were mightily impressed.
I will be interested to know if the Treo 700p works with the Volvo BT kit as well - especially if it allows a much longer contact list.
I also agree that life should be simpler than having to spend soooo many hours figuring these things out.
Post back if you ever hear from Moto.
Thanks and regards... Re: (barrysharp)

Each cell phone service provider seems to do things differently with what is loaded on the firmware. I hope to hear this week which Treo 650 Motorola confirmed worked with the Volvo IHF-1000. I am using three sources to get the answer. Hopefully one actually comes through.
Since your Cingular has needed version 2 BT, yours may be the one Moto tested. Your contact info problem may have been a red herring. But who am I to say --
If you haven't dumped the switch plate yet, let me know. I sent you an IM
Ozzie

Interesting - I bought my Treo 650 almost as soon as Cingular had it for sale some 18 months ago.

Quote, originally posted by Ozzie »

Each cell phone service provider seems to do things differently with what is loaded on the firmware. ...snip...
If you haven't dumped the switch plate yet, let me know. Barry
I talked with the installer that local Volvo dealer uses -- guess what, he has never gotten a Cingular Treo 650 to work with a Volvo BT car kit and he is a Cingular dealer. He was pushing the Parrot.
I haven't heard from the two Moto sources yet. I will keep you posted.
Ozzie

I am using a 700P with much success with the Volvo BT. I tried the 700W without success so therefore changed to the 700P.

Re: Volvo BT Kit w/Treo 650 Cingular and receiveing calls (barrysharp)

I replaced my Verizon 650 with a Verizon 700P. It works most of the time. Volvo dealer says their system works fine. Verizon says their system works fine. I am happy this is only a car toy and not a life support system.
Regarding BT operation: I don't use it to access my contact list. Occasionally, I have had to "delete all phones" and then "pair" the Treo again to get things working. Other times it starts in "set-up menu" and you have to tell it to "connect phone one". After reconnecting, I've been able to get to "main menu" to make calls. Today, I synced the phone before I left the office and forgot to clear the sync screen. Of course I could not connect with the car until I cleared the sync screen. A couple of weeks ago, incoming calls were not going thru the car radio but you could hear them on the cell phone. I removed and reinstalled the Treo's battery and everything worked perfectly. Who would have thought that would work. I think my cell is posessed.
Now Palm is showing an upgrade for the Verizon 650. Version 1.05a, I think. It claims to have added car kits and other things. I am asking Palm what car kits have been added. If the Volvo kit is there, I may go back to my 650.
I love technology
Ozzie
