I ordered a S60R for delivery on October 26. The confirmation letter (pre-printed) has arrived indicting a substitution of the Volvo Brand Experience for the long standing Factory Tour. What gives?? Not a vacation period, and is not a changeover period. Anyone understand why?
I was looking forward to the Factory Tour.

Re: Volvo Brand Experience (Rex)

Probably getting the factory ready for a new line of cars. Maybe they are getting ready for the next generation S60 or the upcoming 30-series.
Just go to the factory store and spend some money instead!!

That's weird...I was told the factory is down for retooling from July to August. Maybe Bob and the fill in person for Yannis will know for sure.

Periodically as flybynight has suggested the factory tours are halted for production activities involving the start of a new Volvo model or major changes to an existing model.
William

My confirmation letter said the same thing when I got it, but by the time we went the factory was open for tours again. You can find out for sure when you e-mail or call the FDC to set up your appointment.

Rex............

The factory tour is a big highlight for most OSD'ers. Late october is a time when they "normally" offer the tour. I do know tat Volvo is working on a # of projects...including the new C30 as well as the redesigned S60's and V70's. That may account for the lack of the tour. However....if that is the case, ther estill may be an abbreviated tour that would at least shoew you the stamping and subframe assemby processes.
Don't give up hope on te tour....things have a way of changing sometimes...especially when you are talking about the car biz
If I get any "reliable" info...I will pass it along!
BTW...I have been on vacation for the last week..just trying to get caught up!

Bryan....
The S40/V50's and the R models are final assembled in Ghent. The other 60/70 series models are still assembled at Torslanda along with the XC70/90 and the S80's. The C70 is made at the Uddevalla plant just north of Gothenburg.

They not only close the factory for new model retooling, but for vacations as well. July-Aug p'ups will most likely not get the factory tour. When we picked up on 3 Jun 2005, we got an abbreviated tour because they had "special" vehicles in final assembly...
