Volvo at Frankfurt Motor Show
Volvo is to show off its concept cars and some new developments at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. These are to include:
PCC2: The second of Volvo's Performance Concept Car prototypes. The first, based on the S60 saloon, was shown last year at the Birmingham Motor Show, and this one is based on the V70 estate. "With mean, ground-hogging looks and overtones of Volvo's touring Car victories, the PCC2 gives a strong indication of how a future high-performance Volvo V70 estate car could look", says Volvo. However, we already know what it would look like, because spy photographers have caught the real thing out testing.
ACC and SCC: The Adventure Concept Car and Safety Concept Car, first shown at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year, give clues as to the next Volvo 4x4 and Volvo's forthcoming safety developments for production vehicles. The SCC also prefigures Volvo's forthcoming contender in the small family car market. Both of these two concept vehicles will be shown as further evidence of future Volvo's to come.
Cross Country Ocean Race Edition: Volvo will be showing and releasing a special edition Cross Country to mark its sponsorship of the Ocean Race. The Ocean Race edition Cross Country models have appropriate unique Ocean Blue metallic paint, plus front and rear aluminium skid plates, leather-faced sports seats, mesh aluminium inlays, silver rubbing strips and Volvo Ocean Race logos on the front doors and floor mats. They come with the 2.4-liter 5-cylinder light pressure turbo-charged engine.

Integrated Starter Generator(ISG): This replaces both the starter motor and alternator, stopping the engine when the car is stationary to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by up to 20%. It uses 42-volt technology to charge a separate battery to power ancillary items (air conditioning, power steering and so on) instead of drawing power from the engine, again reducing fuel consumption.
D5 and Bi-Fuel: Volvo will have displays of the new D5 turbodiesel models and a cutaway show car demonstrating Volvo's bi-fuel (CNG/petrol and LPG/petrol) systems. These cutaways will demonstate the technology and engineering aspect of these new powerplants.
Updated Volvo S80 Executive: The updated S80 Executive edition will feature an upgraded rear seat entertainment system with DVD player, individual TV screens in the back of the front seat head restraints, infra-red headphones and a remote control, plus a built-in fridge.
Concept Lab Volvo: Visitors to the Volvo stand at Frankfurt will also be able to take part in Concept Lab Volvo, Volvo's interactive website where Volvo engineers can collect feedback on the cars on display and chat to visitors.
-Drew

[This message has been edited by InDy (edited 08-29-2001).]

Hey Drew, what's your source. I'd love to run a piece, and I'm going to call to verify the SCC2, but I was curious where you'd heard? I'll be there BTW, and we'll do our best to keep everyone updated.
