Volvo USA is adding something new to the company's offerings, and it's not just for new car buyers. It's called Tow For Life, and it gives owners of any year or model of Volvo a free tow if they break down.

“Tow for Life ensures that in the event of a breakdown, help is on hand no matter the age of the vehicle,” said Scott Doering, Head of Customer Service for Volvo Car USA, “It’s a commitment to all our customers that cars will be taken to experts who use genuine Volvo parts and repair methods. This will get the customer back on the road faster and provide assurance that the repair was done right.”

So they might not take you to your favorite garage, but they will take you to one that knows your Volvo. Drivers can use Volvo On-Call or call the customer care line. There's no fee for the service or for the tows that will bring your car to a local Volvo retailer.

It's an unusual service. Roadside assistance during the car warranty is common, but extending that to cars more than half a century old is a bold move. The company says that it complements their Volvo Car Accident Advisor service as well as the Volvo Lifetime Replacement Parts & Labor Warranty. The latter is a service launched in 2015 that covers nearly any genuine replacement part - excluding wear items - that was purchased and installed at a Volvo dealer for as long as that owner keeps the car.

So if you're worried about being stranded in your out of warranty Volvo, then drive on and don't worry about it.
