My son's 96 wagon started losing power on Friday and the check engine code reads catalytic converter...seems like its plugged. Does anyone have any thoughts about transporting the car to Winston Salem, where we live? The local tow guy quoted $800! Thanks for any suggestions...
If the cat is plugged, there is no harm in destroying it. You might be able to disconnect the cat back and use a bar to break out the ceramic. This will make it worthless to sell as scrap when you take it off , but could save you $800.00 and get you home. The bolts on the cat back are 12mm head.
