Well I've finally got approval from the wife to make a mod for up to $1,600 for the year. I've been drooling over the volutions, but have never seen a picture with the Ti exterior color.
I'm also considering other options, so your opinions are appreciated.

Re: Volutions or Mod? (UNO_RACING)

I know how HARD it is to get approval from the WIFE for car mods!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!! I feel your pain!! AFter all the stuff I've done - I think I'll be shot if I buy anything....
what mods do you have right now? Do you have 17 or 18 inch pegs now?
if you have NO mods - I honestly would go for an ECU first. You'll get a nice gain in power - enough to really feel it.
In my opinion, as nice as the volutions are - they don't look *that* much better than stock pegs. Pegs are darn nice wheels for OEM. They may be a bit heavy...but I believe the Volutions are also heavy wheels...so you are spending a lot of money for wheels that maybe look a tad better - but the average person would never even know you changed them.
I'd spend the $1600 on an ECU and springs. Those two mods will give you a really nice gain in power AND handling. I don't know what the other companies charge - but $1600 would just about cover an EVOLVE ECU and springs. You can do the ECU yourself....the springs *might* be another $200 or so in labor to get installed.
the beauty of the ECU is that you get nice power gains, but retain all the stock looks and sounds. the springs stiffen up the ride enough to make a nice improvement in handling, plus it makes the car look WAY more aggressive. They are probably your biggest "bang for the buck" mods.
Then if you get used to that and want more, add sway bars and an exhaust. Then add a downpipe if that's not enough.
If you are on a $1600 budget - I say go ECU and springs.
If you can squeeze it in - I would honestly recommend the blue EVOLVE engine bushing. That thing is like $50 and it really tightens up the feel of the steering wheel. you can put that in yourself too and it does make a noticeable improvement in steering feel.
Enjoy!

For example, people like frank hoffy start out "just wanting an exhaust".... it starts with the first performance mod and then you are hooked like crack. If that's all your anual budget allows then that's cool, you still have a great car just go asthetics.

Re: Volutions or Mod? (R_Rated)

Springs will run you about 6-8 hours to install. No ifs, ands or buts. Otherwise, you're getting done a favor.
I would agree with the above....I'd go with springs and ECU. I am drooling to get the TME springs on my V. I am still "working the purse strings" as you have been. However, it's tough with a new house that need furnishing. At least it's tough for my wife.
Springs vs. bedroom furniture. Hey, who cares what it looks like....you're sleeping!

These both will provide more enjoyment out of the R than any other combination of upgrades. If you like to drive and feel what's happening get this is the setup IMO!
It's a very responsive combination that HP upgrades can't fulfill. I enjoyed my DP and TME cat-back as it opened up the upper end of things a little bit, but I would sacrifice the sound and flow of an exhaust for the suspension my car now has.
The TME springs are quiet and do not need any addressing as well as the IPD trac spec bars. They both work flawlessly together and compliment each other.
If I could do it again I would upgrade the suspension first and then consider exhaust tone. Though, the TME exhaust was a good deal at $795, so I couldn't pass up.
This is, if I had a choice, the order in which I would upgrade.
Kevin
Also, $700 for parts and $700 for install is definately realistic providing the dealer does all the work. I installed the sways on my own but the springs came out of my pocket. You should be able to have them both done within your cap, including the alignment and SUM program.
Kevin

I wouldn't pay over $400 for springs.
I had springs AND sway bars installed for $600.
I was told by my mechanic that the only part of the install that was a PITA was the front sway bar. The rest was straightforward.
those Volutions DO look cool! I have to admit. Although if I was gonna drop the hammer and buy wheels - I'd go wtih EVOLVE E7s / HRE style wheels.

Re: Volutions or Mod? (stevectsai)

I would go for more power, ECU & Exhaust, but that's me speed junkie.
Are you keeping your car for a long time? If so you can keep on upgrading year after year, if not why bother and waste your money?
BUT if you want to get a good investment return, do all the mods you'll consider at once and use it for as long as possible. Or can your wife really tell the difference of a new DP, ECU, sway bar, etc? Most women will only recognize wheels, exterior kits and exhaust. Our simply let your wife nicely know why you need all this and why there will be no money left for family vacation this year.
Happy hunting for the perfect R, be carefull as someone said it is addictive like a drug... or sex, wich is free at home most of the time.
