Re: volans (devalmyth)

Yes, but ONLY with a spacer of some kind. You need to move the wheel out by about 23-25mm. The offset of the 240 is 20mm, and the Volan offset is 43mm. To make up that difference it takes 23mm. You can use spacers which require longer wheel studs, or you can use adapters which incorporate seperate studs in the spacer. With an adapter, you bolt it to the car, then the wheel is bolted to the adapter (two sets of studs, 10 lug nuts per wheel).

Here's a great Australian site that shows a 240 with wheels from an 850:

There's probably something about it on Anthony Hyde's website too:

In the "Show Coverage" section, there's a picture of a 142 at the Carlisle show with Volans. Maybe George or someone else might have a contact for the owner of the car.

Re: volans (Spearzy)

Actually, I spoke to Scott over at IPD about a month ago and he said they were going to start selling them and I think he had some in stock. I haven't seen them in any of his circulars yet, but you could call and ask him.

Another place you can check is calling the phone number you'll find at http://www.parts4vws.com . They're VW parts, but good people and a big distributor for H&R who makes wheel spacers. They might be able to help you out. Ask for Kristen.

WOOOOWWW, is that tint on the front windshield down to like four inches from the dash board?! That is soooo pimp'in. People tell me my sunstrip is hardcore but that is way coooler http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
Those rims are the kind of style I want next for rims too. Either the split spoke like that or just straight multy-spoke. Something race derived though, with some street flare! http://********************/smile/emwink.gif

No, I don't think he has a tinted windshield. http://********************/smile/emwink.gif Just the way the reflection hits the window makes it look that way.

I think you mean bolt pattern. Many companies sell "blanks", which are wheels that have not been drilled so that the buyer can have them machined to fit any bolt pattern. This is not overly expensive or difficult to have done, so don't let this little detail stop you from getting the wheels you want (the price might stop you, however http://********************/smile/emsmileo.gif ). I know tirerack.com sells some blank wheels and they often include the machining in the price of the wheel, so it's just like a wheel you'd normally buy to fit your car. The only difference may be that they could require centering rings, which are used to center the wheel on the hub when the center bore of a wheel is larger than the hub. The term "hub-centric" refers to the wheel being centered on the hub, and therefore transmitting a great deal of the load to the hub rather than putting that load on the studs.

When using these wheels on a 240, the issue of bolt pattern could be solved by using adapters to change from the 5x108mm bolt pattern to any other pattern that doesn't overlap, so long as the offset is at least 25mm greater. Personally I'd like to try mounting some Porsche wheels on a Volvo using 35-40mm thick 5x108 to 5x130 adapters.

Re: volans (devalmyth)

Sorry about the confusion. This should be able to fit your car, I guess all you need is the wheel spacer, they have the same bolt pattern, just not the right offset, same deal as fitting the Volans on your RWD volvo. I was going to cancel my order for the other wheels. But now I'm at the trade show, and just lost my cell phone, so I guess I'll be just buying those wheels then. Let me know if you are serious about getting them. I know you are near MD area, you are more than welcome to drop by and check them out.

We'll meet around my house where there's no sniper around. http://********************/smile/emcrook.gif

Who, me? I'm not interested in the wheels...I was just clarifying some of the posts above.

I think shipping to "devalmyth" (Michael) in Australia would be prohibative. He's the one who wanted them, or a similar wheel.
