So I am looking into replacing the rotors on the S60R, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with these.
http://www.vivaperformance.com...d=804
I know that cross drilled rotors tend to eat pads up a bit more quickly than normal ones, but are there any other problems I have to worry about? Some people have suggested that cross drilled rotors are weaker (i.e, will crack) but if the rotors are properly designed and machined and not driven on the track, I don't think I should have any problems..
Thanks for any insight on this.

Re: Viva Performance Crossdrilled/Slotted Rotors? (ABN2)

I can't speak directly for the ones that Viva is selling, but I've run crossdrilled on my c70 for the last 10 years and never had a problem with cracking or pads being eaten up any quicker than a traditional non-crossdrilled rotor.
I've tried the slotted and crossdrilled version and threw them out within three months as they ate my pads up way too quick, and I saw no marked improvement with them. Others I'm sure have had better experiences I'm sure, but for me no thanks. If I could find a set of Zimmerman crossdrilled rotors I would buy them in a heartbeat.

I don't know about the Viva rotors since I haven't looked at them, but some of the others out there have powder coated edges and hats - way worthwhile along with the cross-drilling and slotting.
These aren't too much more than the OEM rotors:
http://www.drt-sport.com/bigcell.php?i=878

These DRT's are a GREAT price - I wonder if we could put together a group buy and get that price down even further?!
EDIT: I just went on VIVA's site, and they are the same price - maybe we could do a group buy from George and give him the biz?

SHM, the manufacturer of all Porsche cast iron rotors drilles the holes, just like everyone else. And they still crack, I can show you pictures of cracks propogating from the holes on Porsche rotors. And all rotors can and will crack (even solid faced), but a drilled rotor will crack sooner than a solid faced rotor.
The difference and the reason that the Porsche rotors (and other reputable rotors like Brembo) seem to be more robust and not have major/catastrophic cracking failure is they are designed that way outright. It means the brake plates are sized to account for the thermal mass loss from the drilling. The holes are also sized and chamfered correctyl to minimize peak stress risers. And finally, the pattern of the holes and the pattern of the internal venting are matched to prevent a minor crack (heat checking) from propagating to become a major failure.

Love my crosdrilled/slotted rotors. Didn't get them from Viva though, sorry George, got them from DRT rotors. Enjoy. Stopping power is a little better than stock.
