I am looking at the S80's for my mother and see some posts about problems with certain VIN numbers, can anyone please tell me what VIN numbers are affected and what the problems are ?? We are looking at the 98-99 S80's as her budget is limited. Thanks for any help. God Bless.

Re: VIN numbers and problems >>>>>> (JDELUNA)

I asked this question two weeks ago when I was shopping an S80 for my dad. This is the response I got from Yannis.

quote:
As far as VINs to stay away from, I would definitely stay away from anything that is less than 028000 and also have a full check up (from a Retailer's computer) about the warranty repair history on any '99 S80 that its last six of the VIN are less than 042000.
Yannis

the rest of that thread can be found here
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=5611

Thanks for the info. What are the problems with the older cars that have the VINs affected ?? Will a car that is Volvo Preowned Certified be safe to purchase if it has the VIN affectted ??

Also George I was the one that e-mailed you about your red 850R Did you get my last e-mail reply back ???

Re: George >>>>> (JDELUNA)

Hate to bring up an old topic, but looking back over one year in this section, I didn't see any topics that pointed out the specific problems of the 1999 S80 T6s.
I'm actually looking at replacing my Jetta with a larger car, and have been offered what looks like a decent deal on a 1999 S80 T6
Here's the VIN: YV1TS90D8X1028691
And the price is about 19k at a dealer with about 64k miles
Any help is most appreciated. Thanks

Ask for the complete history of this car and have your salesperson run a "warranty history" of that poarticular car. If you see frequent warranty repairs for the last 3-4 years, forget about it no matter how cheap it is. $19K is a tad high for that car, anyway.
Yannis
