Fellow Volvo enthusiasts,

Having all the power of the T8, and better still, access to gobs of torque on demand, is a fantastic luxury. Problem is, I rarely get a chance to actually use it, apart from the occasional overtake maneuver. So having paid plenty of $s for untapped performance, I politely asked my wife if I could borrow her SUV for a few hours.

Here's what I got up to:

One of my very first posts to YouTube, so please be nice! If you guys like it, who knows, I might be encouraged to make a few more videos....

Thanks for the correction on the weight. I think I confused it because it is rated as a 6,000lb vehicle regarding tax allowances for a business. I'm not sure of the details, but anything 6,000 lbs or over is considered to be a commercial and this is somehow a tax advantage ... I'm vague on the details, but I'm sure there is someone else on the forum who can elaborate.

Polestar treatment would be nice ..... but problem is I'd never get to use it. Unless I went to the track again of course....

Unfortunately the track was only 1/8 mile and my fastest time was 9.1 seconds. To be honest, the shorter track worked better for the T8 than a 1/4 would have. The primary reason is the electric motor stops assisting after about 75 or 80mph. Secondly, there is only so much power that can be wrung out of a 2.0 litre engine, so the bigger capacity cars (V8s etc) have much better high end power and torque. Over a 1/4 mile they'd have eaten the T8 easily. However, the AWD and instant torque from the electric motor was perfect to launch the thing and maintain the chance of winning over the shorter 1/8 mile.

I didn't video all the runs, but did beat a new V8 Mustang head to head .... but the T8 made it easy for me, just floor it on green, no other skill required!

casso,
Very entertaining video. You have a knack for keeping stuff interesting. Make more.

The T8 twin engine concept is a unique differentiator for Volvo Cars in the luxury SUV market. But Volvo NA isn't exploiting that enough in their marketing. They should run your video as their commercial. It would help them attract the younger soccer mom/dad demographics to the XC90 T8. It is so much more relatable than the stuffy, pretentious poet commercial they run.

Actually, it will be fun to see a commercial by the user "XC90Excellence" drag racing while the passenger is sipping wine and watching TV :)

No - this wasn't an issue at all. I drove the T8 to the track with full batteries and kept the car in 'Save' mode (or whatever that mode is called). I only used the batteries on each run (about 10 or so) and neer got below 1/4 charge. At worst, I could have simply parked the car and used the engine to replenish the batteries. To be honest, I also was surprised they never got used up....

Haha ... what a hoot! Thanks! What must those rice rockets be thinking ... I just got beat by an soccer mom SUV ??!!
That's what I love about the XC90. X5s, Macans etc are all 'shouty' and attention seeking. Very few know what the T8 is and get shocked when it blows away 'faster' cars. It's a real sleeper.
