Good morning. Do not get mad. I searched a long time
The question is how to go about trying to put together some shop manual
information
If I was to get some subscription and it is only for 3 days what do I do print out as many pages as I can over 3 days
Is it a true shop manual that includes engine disassembly, etc, changing brakes, e-brake, turbo, etc etc
In other words like the old Haynes and Chiltons we used for 850's
Thank you because the Volvo tech site is so confusing I have no idea what I would be trying to purchase and it is expensive

Go onto Ebay and search for VADIS.

Re: VIDA manual, etc etc (Helmut Ranff)

This would be a next to impossible job. Having used VADIS (replaced by VADA) for a number of years I can say it is Not a very intuitive system. It is not laid out like a manual, but is based on "word search-query". For example, when you enter the search for "engine" , it will look through the content and return all content which contains the word "engine" or phrases that contain segments of the word "engine" i.e. "en". To make things more frustrating, searching on "engine" does not return everything you need to know about the engine and its components. Camshafts, valves, tappets, seals, oil pump, timing belt, water pump, etc., etc., etc. are all separate queries and contain the parts and repair information specific to the query. In addition, many of the returned queries can contain links to other information which can take you to other links. At times it is like being in an infinite loop!
Doug H

Re: VIDA manual, etc etc (defgh1)

Agree with defgh1 about lack of intuitiveness of VADIS. However, it has everything that the old service manuals had, and has parts list as well. If you've ever seen the older Volvo manuals, this has the same information, just a bit harder to access.
Bought mine on ebay, and offers were between $25 and $109. The more expensive one has four DVD's, but I got one with 2 DVD's, manual and parts list, and second DVD for wiring diagrams. Satisfied, with what I got.

Re: VIDA manual, etc etc (wizzard_al)

Just remember when you're bidding, what you are buying is usually someones bootlegged copy of a Volvo VADIS disk. It works just fine and gets you what you need, but just keep in mind that after your bidding war for the disk, the guy will just make another copy and put it up for sale.
There is a few things like the disks expire after a certain date, but there are work arounds for that problem.

Re: VIDA manual, etc etc (Our R)

Thanks everyone. I was trying to figure out how the legal subscription worked. Do try to print out certain things, does it let you print? things like
that because the site is very hard to understand what you get
There is some thing they call basic pocket guide or something for $18 but it is hard to know what that means cause it is very confusing and does not really seem to be made for the owner to do his own maintenance

Actually I've found Vadis very helpful on part numbers, installation of items and removal. As far as engine type repairs I wouldn't know. I know I look at Vadis quite a bit though.

The question was could you easily make a maintence manual for your car with a 3 day subscription to VADA.
Doug H

McAfee complained to me when I tried it (suspicious script) but I told it to go ahead and execute. The script is trying to create a text file and then open it. If you want, disable your AV software then try it again.
