The point, from my point of view, is that we have a number of great vendors at our finger tips to utilize with wonderful methods of recourse should something go wrong.

By operating outside of that circle you can either hit pay dirt (cheap upgrades) or end up getting the shaft and losing your shirt.

On this one specifically I personally had some discomfort with him on a few minor (non-sale) interactions but it seemed like it was working fine for everyone else. Considering we only have one report of a problem and a few good transactions, I personally wouldn't order from them but wouldn't be shocked if someone else did.

just another opportunity to remind everyone to be ware... it is the internets after all...

I agree with the general rule of thumb to be careful when doing business on the web. However I think it's a big leap to assume that someone is a criminal just because of one transaction from one member. Sometimes even forum sponsors have delays or problems with their orders.

Absolutely correct - i think the difference is that the forum sponsors have demonstrated over a long period of time they have the resources to deal with issues with orders.
A small/new vendor has not yet had that opportunity to prove themselves so the little hiccups that happen for all vendors are amplified.

I want to be clear - I am certainly not calling the guy a crook. I am saying that its better to be cautious than not, especially with your money!

Looks like it has turned out okay, dude had a family emergency and was out of touch for a while. Sometimes these things happen.

Great to hear.

Unfortunately people have been burned on here by "new" vendors and some old ones (starts e ends with volve) so many times in the past that skepticism is my default state of mind.
