Hello everyone,

Finally, I tested VDASH diagnostic software and this is to confirm it's working now for Volvo SPA using only the ethernet to OBD cable. No need for the expensive Dice unit like before. The software is free on D5T5.com.

I was able to diagnose trouble codes on my 2018 S90. However, adding more features like navigation, video in motion, etc.. will require decoding the pins of the CEM and ECM (require VDash Pro dealer). Did not try that yet.

Part needed:

VOE adapter (Ethernet to OBD cable). I used the one from ebay ($25) and it was working fine. However, I had troubles to match the IP address but finally it worked on my second laptop. Not sure if it's the cable resistor itself or the laptop.

D5T5 supply OEM volvo adapter 9513108 and would recommend that over the eBay one. The choice is yours at the end.

Software needed:
VDASH (free but would require account registration).

Awesome, ordered the eBay adapter last night. I'll download the software and see how it works. Thank you

Very interesting.
In another thread we discussed that VDASH was no longer working on SPA cars with VOE cables.

I still have an open ticket with D5T5 concerning this issue.
I will try again the connection test, maybe in the meanwhile they have upgraded the release and now it is working again.

You are welcome guys... I hope the info help someone.

I just tested it again and it's working flawlessly. Kindly, check again as they might just released a software update that addressed the issue.

Here are the steps that I'm following:
1- Conect the OBD cable (OBD side only)
2- Start the engine
3- Run VDASH as administrator
4- Log in into your VDASH account
5- Once logged in, that J2534 device error message will appear
6- Turn off the engine
7- Connect the Ethernet cable into the laptop and wait until it detects the vehicle.
8- Once detected, close all the pop up windows/messages.
9- Enjoy VDASH (Warning: do not exceed the 10 - 15 minutes if you have no battery charger connected as diagnostic consumes a lot of energy).

I tried to connect vDash with the VOE adapter last week and couldn’t make it work…

Maybe my VOE is not working properly or they changed something on vDash lately…

I will also try the exact same connection sequence you outlined above.

Great post! Thank you!

Awesome progress, thanks for sharing.
Can VDASH disable Bulb Check functions? Converting the filament bulbs in my V90 (reverse, rear turn, rear fog) to LEDs triggers "Bulb Malfunction" errors on the dash unless very specific circuit load is detected. I have had to trick the car, and no more errors, but can that function be disabled altogether?

Confirming that it works with the eBay Ethernet cable with my 2018 v90cc. What does pro get me compared to the normal free plan?

Re: CEM decoding needed for vdash...i followed the process Power6 outlined in this post:

very clever workaround...costs you a 3 day vida subscription and a whopping $0.10 vida purchase...along with $10 subscription to vdash...the vdash changes are purchased a la carte...

enjoy - R

I think vdash is out of a la carte and now it's yearly sub.

What sucks is that if you get a total refresh at the dealer I'm sure you have to re-activate features like paddle shifter.

I used the VDASH Lite version for $10/year...and then you can select various options to enable at various prices...activating the paddle shifters cost $109USD...the VIDA 3-day subscription was $79...

true on the total software reload...i have no idea if once you buy the enabled option with vdash whether they allow another update should it be needed...otherwise, it's another $109 in the case of the paddle shifters...not the worst of cost if i needed to pay again...

software 2.0 updates don't effect vdash enabled updates - at least not this one...i've had that done since i enabled the shifters...and all good...

Can VDASH reprogram the tire circumference/diameter values to display the correct speed if larger diameter tires are used? Pre-2020, the 20" tire size was 255/35/20, now they're coming with 245/40/20, which are 0.7" larger in diameter, the extra sidewall sounds enticing, and the speedometer difference is trivial, but just curious whether VDASH could do this.

While everyone enjoys programming and clearing codes (Good for you guys) but here I am not able to even connect to my car using J2534 to USB device purchased on eBay for $110 (VidaDice clone) The software keeps searching for the hardware. Updated drivers and reinstalled VDash without success. Just need to scan the codes on my wife's 2018 XC60 so I can take it in for state inspection. Has anyone had a similar experience and found a workaround?

There is a dedicated subForum for OBD/CANBUS, etc for those that want to go deep into this subject. Be warned - Volvo is aware of VDASH and others changing configs. They are taking notice and taking action --- some cars are getting locked out of VIDA and require Volvo corporate approval to unlock. While it's nice to be able to turn off the headlight washers, changing other things from your home market configuration could create a challenge at your next dealer visit.

There is a thread in this subForum:

Isn’t there a law in the US where the car owner has the right to fix his car?

Isn’t that why VIDA is available for the end user in the US?

Under this rationale shouldn’t you be able to use vDash (or other tool) do “fix” your car?

#42 ·
Yes, but changing the configuration to something not U.S. spec or to a configuration different than how the car came from the factory is what would fall outside the right to fix umbrella.

It may come down to the legal difference of "fix" versus "change." And probably when the law was written, a fix was more likely a hardware repair.

Nope, just I have just the VDash on my computer. But the guy who sold me obd cable admitted that the cable is not compatible with VDash. Now I’m looking for another cable probably not the cheapest version on eBay, but it seems that there’s not many options either. [emoji2371]
If it's a VOE it should work without issue. As some confirmed that the BMW Obd to Ethernet cable works fine with VDash.

I used the Volvo's VOE adapter (p/n: 9513108 about $50 USD) with my Windows 10 laptop and a 3 day subscription to VIDA to change my wheel size configuration.

Hi there !
I have a xc60 from 2022 and have followed the guidelines but Vdash won’t recognize the car. It keep flashing on the top left button “detecting j2534” and a message in the middle saying drivers of j2534 are missing or outdated.
I use the Volvo official VOE cable and a simple Ethernet cable.
At first my internet wifi would disconnect when I plug the VOE with Ethernet but now I manage to keep the internet wifi connection but still no connection to Vdash. Any idea on what could happen ?
Thanks.

Try to reinstall VDash software and log on.

Once done connect the cable to the car and switch the start/stop knob (hold 5 seconds without pressing the brake). The instrument light should come on. Keep VDash running until it recognizes the car.
