VDASH - CEM Cracking Process?

Can anyone provide instructions on how to crack the CEM with VDASH?

I have the VDASH software download, registered and connected a DICE clone to the car and computer. Both are plugged in for constant AC power. I have a 100 yard ethernet cable running to my garage for internet. I connected the a battery tender and inserted the key for position I. Once I login to VDASH, I cannot get past the self test. I left the device connected last night for 8 hours and it was still in self test in the morning.
What am I doing wrong here?

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, make sure that your battery charger is powerful enough. From my experience, a simple battery tender will not be enough. I had to use my big 15A charger to go through long cracking sessions.

Appears you are correct. The 3A battery tender was not powerful enough and the power save mode came back on this morning. So I've resorted to a 10A charger which appears to be working so far.

So how long does the self test take before the cracking process starts?

The self test shouldn't be taking more than a few moments. You need to start the CEM cracking process as well, it is not automatic. You should see an option in the lower right and it will go through the same process as making a change to the vehicle will look like after you are done.

I would unplug the DICE, close VDASH, take your car out of Ignition II and start over again. To get into ignition II you need to hold the button for a second or two without your foot on the brake. You will know you are in ignition II as the car will have everything running with exception to the engine. I turned off my lights and the center stack just in case it conserved any power when I did it.

I used a 3A charger and had little issue. I started with the car "full" per the battery tender. Had it running for about 8 hours. Powered the car off and let it fill back up a little bit for 2-3 hours on the tender. Then let it run while I slept. It wasn't keeping up, but it was slow enough that it got the job done without it needing to halt the process with the short stop in between.

VDASH is an aftermarket software that can be used for configuration changes with the car. It has exploded on here for the most part due to being able to enable the TFT dim in cars that normally could not (in the US market at least), such as my car (2013). It also enables other configuration changes such as remote start and changes to the temp of the seat heaters.

Some of these things can be done without VDASH via VIDA (seat heater temps) or a dealer (remote start). Others like the TFT DIM enable cannot (for certain cars).

You will need a DICE unit and use VDASH to crack the CEM code first though

This is how I did it.

1. Got a 22Amp battery charger.
2. Got an ethernet cable to the car.
3. Connected the battery charger to the power grid.
4. Connected the battery charger to the car.
5. Started the car. So it runs.
6. Connected ethernet cable to laptop.
7. Started the laptop.
8. Connected the DiCE cable to the car and to the laptop.
9. Started VDASH
10. Clicked on the Decode CEM button.
11. The process started, VDASH made the car click few times and powered the car down.
12. Initially the process is fast. Like the first 20%, then it got slow.
13. 5 hours later CEM cracked.
14. Laptop used was really old HP 9470m Folio. Having stable internet plays a bigger role in the decoding speed.
15. You can stop the decoding at any time and it will continue from where you stopped it. Don;t worry that VDASH starts from 0% again, it will start the brute force of the code from the last combination it tried before.

Thank you. This helps. Looks like I was going about the process all wrong too.

Also, my 10A battery charger was having issues this weekend not keeping up either. With the battery charger on, the car would go into low battery,"powersave" mode within 15 minutes. Looks like I'll have to resort to buying/renting a 15-20A battery charger then trying again, once I kill all the lights, screen and anything else I can in the interior.

If the car is in "battery save mode" or the "low battery" message is on, even though there is sufficient voltage at 13.4+, will VDASH CEM cracking process still work? It appears I have a BMS issue that continues to trigger the battery low light, even with sufficient battery voltage, and I have yet to be able to get past the self test process in VDASH. I am trying to avoid going to the dealer to have the BMS reset just to get VDASH to work.

the battery low message will not interfere with the CEM cracking process. VDASH is looking at the voltage.

Do you have the vehicle communication light blinking on your dice unit? Have you connected in VIDA and confirmed your car will connect. If you are talkign about the self test on the first page that seems to be a pretty quick item. It will take a little longer when it goes to read each module in the car.

The DICE clone I have does not have anything labeled, but all the lights appears to blink as soon as I connect to the laptop and VDASH login open. I currently do not have working copy of VIDA. That's the next thing on my list after I get VDASH working.

The orange light I believe is vehicle communication with the green at the opposite end being power if I remember correctly.

A easy to us VIDA virtual machine can be downloaded at the below link. You just download the VM, install VM SW per the page and you are good to go.

https://forums.swedespeed.com/showt...com/showthread.php?481385-VIDA-Dice-2014D-VM-Image-Download-Link#/topics/481385

You should have the car in ignition mode II/2 (no foot on brake, hold the starter for about 2 seconds, everything comes on), plug in the dice so it can start up, then plug it into the PC. I recommend trying VIDA only to verify the DICE works. I was able to verify mine does not read the LS can for some reason after both VDASH and VIDA had the same issue. If you cannot get VIDA to read the car it would indicate an issue with your DICE unit .

I'm intrigued on purchasing this VDASH but I don't want to go through the pain of installing this on a computer like VIDA was. Does it need VIDA installed? I have a dedicated computer w/ XP and VIDA still loaded on it. Will it work on that?

VDASH is free, you pay per usage, it's not related to VIDA and installation was quick and easy on my windows 10 machine. You do, however, need a DICE device to connect your computer to the car.

Looks like your older P1 CEM can't be decoded without physically opening it. I don't know what modification your looking after but personally, I wouldn't go through all this trouble.
Furthermore, your car won't be usable the whole time the CEM will be out for surgery.

I believe that's the case, too. I would totally do it myself, but again, no response from the support email for guidance or otherwise.

It's really so cool, I'd been pondering how to get to the level the app is at. I would love to be educated on how to go about accessing and reading the bus in this car.

Even with all the available configuration changes, there are functions missing which I know are available overseas- also most of the DIM functions don't work.

There's just a lot I would research and iron out if given some direction.

Anyhow- have fun with the easy way, guys, truly, and let me know if support ever shows up [emoji83]

If you have a stronger laptop, I would definitely recommend using it. Also the timer is pretty useless as they previously said, you will probably be surprised when it finishes.
