Re: (Chilled Man)

What is the major advantage to owning it? Seems like a lot to just clear some DTC's. or am I missing something?

LOL
You are missing alot.
How many volvos you have / family have / do you do your own work .
If you do your own work it pays for itslef the first time you use it
Not only that but it will tell you how to trouble shoot from start to finish for every single little flashy light on your dash

Not to mention, checking ALL modules for codes and being able to clear them. Regular scanners do not read any more than the ECM OBDII codes.
And you can do SUM calibrations, SAS Calibrations and even read the holy grail (for some odd reason) boost pressure.
Hopefully soon, I'll have my own VIDA. VADIS is sooo four years ago.
$3200 is a bit pricy

Re: (Chilled Man)

The better question is, how much and where can you get a VCT2000? I have vadis but it seems to be a pain in the ass to get the VCT. I even have an old laptop with serial ports and everything that would be perfect for the job.

Stupid question. Someone said Sum Cal. Does this mean software changes? Such as heated seats level and such. I assume no to software updates/upgrades.

So you can run extended diagnostics on pretty much everything, including tests in the CEM that let you control everything that is computer-operated (windows, engine fans, etc. etc.). You can change things like the headlight settings (disable DRL, change the way your headlights come on with the light sensor), change the heated seat temperature, etc. Software updates you have to pay for and do through VIDA, and they're expensive i think.

Re: (Chilled Man)

VADIS works as a standalone on PC with a VCT2000 up to MY 05 (has anyone tried it on a MY 06 or newer?) . After that it has to be VIDA and a VCT2000 or the new interface, DICE.
All software downloads now have to be through VIDA.
Volvo no longer supports the VCT2000. It does currently still work with VIDA, they make no promises that future revisions to VIDA will fully support it.
Vida subscriptions can be purchased at http://www.volvotechinfo.com. They are expensive and don't really pay for one vehicle.
VCT2000's and the main cable show up on ebay and usually go for $900/1000 & up. There are also three versions of the vct2000; apparently the 1st gen was very problematic.
Its replacement, the DICE, goes for about $1400-1500 or so (bluetooth connection to OBD sender, usb cable slightly less). If you absolutely have to have an interface and are going to spend $1000+, that is the way to go.
Lots more info here https://www.volvotechinfo.com/...tools
