Vacuum pump leak causes oil to accumulate under transmission

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd create this (vs reviving old threads missing the keywords) as a PSA for those in the future.

While changing my oil on the 2013 XC90 3.2, I noticed oil accumulating under the transmission.
It was not ATF accumulating (for sure engine oil) and I went searching for the source (knowing how rare it is for the TF-80SC Gen II to leak ATF).
While thinking about possible leak sources above on the engine, I remembered the vacuum pump problem.
Sure enough, at 153k km, it was leaking.

I'll be ordering the reseal kit and calling it a day.
Hope this helps someone searching for a fix in the future.

I'm pointing in the photos below where the majority of the oil was pooling.

Yeah, I supplied the seals when I had some work done at close to the 250k km mark but I don't remember them being so expensive. Parts must have really gone up in the last couple of years. Ours had been leaking for a while though and I remember them complaining about how much cleaning they had to do. It was probably leaking up to about half a litre between oil changes.

That's good to know it can be that much oil accumulating.
Yes, you're totally right on the parts prices.
It's crazy how much certain parts have gone up while others are unchanged.

I've also learned that this same cam-driven vacuum pump design is used on many VW and Audi models. They also leak on the same seal.

Interestingly, there's a recall for some of them:

I installed this kit today: More Information for SKP SK904815

It worked great except the new screws don't work and the black plastic part doesn't fit.
It included an o-ring to replace the original black plastic part's o-ring.

The old seals were leaking like a sieve.
