I am in the process of removing the timing chain cover on my 2007 XC90 V8 due to damage from a failed idler pulley. I have the harmonic balancer bolt removed but cannot get the harmonic balancer off. I know Volvo has a special puller tool for this, but wanted to know if anyone has had success with another method? Would like to try a few things before spending a $100 on the Volvo tool. I have tried gently prying at it and also tapping with a rubber mallet but so far it has not moved.

Advance Auto had a harmonic balancer puller set for rental - Powerbuilt kit #45. $129 upfront and credited upon return. Worked perfect! Hope this info can help someone else in the future.
