My wife has complained that the car will die just as she pulls out to turn . Happened 3-4 times over a couple week period after driving car for 5 -10 minutes at slow speeds. starts again but is frustrating her. Doesn't throw a code. Any clue where to look to cure? 98 XC. 110K mi. premium gas only from shell.

Re: V70XC dies at stoplight (DJpappe)

What recent maint. have you done? Could be alot of things from cap/ rotor/coil to IAC (idle air control) to TPS (throttle position sensor) any of these things could cause the problem you mention. I am leaning towards one of the first two since they are less likely to throw a code.

Re: V70XC dies at stoplight (heavyiron)

Mine was doing that kinda stuff a couple months after I got it. Usually when I was stopped.<br>Turn off the key, started it back up, Fine! (grumble, grumble, new damn car, grumble...)<br>No codes the first month or so. Turned out to be the MAF. Hasn't done it since... <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/wink.gif" BORDER="0">

Thanks for the help. Maybe some maintainence is in order. Can't remember when it last got new plugs. What do you recommend doing it is 98 V70 CX it is a keeper so i don't mind spending money on it.

You said it's not throwing any codes.<br>Is that going by the CEL or did you plug in?

The CEL bulb may simply have burned out. It's not uncommon. Get the codes scanned just to make sure there aren't any.<p>An ignition tune-up is always a good idea if you can't remember when it was last done.<br>Genuine Volvo spark plugs, bougicord wires, Volvo/Bosch cap and rotor.
