I just left a message for my sales
rep to add me to the V70R waiting list,
hopefully I am the first in my area...
Anyone else make the leap? I drive an
95 850 Turbo, and was looking at the Audi S6
and the BMW 540iT, but the Volvo's interior
convinced me.
Hopefully the manual transmission will carry
over the V70R - anyone have experience with
a manual transmission on a turbo Volvo?
Fully loaded, the Audi is $63,000 and
the BMW is $60,000 - so I am guessing
that the Volvo will fall into the
$48-$55,000 range, depending on options.
At each level, Volvos seem to be
priced lower than Audi and BMW, at least
in the US.
I saw a figure of 40,000 british
pounds in England when I did a web
search, which is about $60,000 USD,
but that may include 17% sales tax.
Also, I don't know about gas guzzler tax,
which adds $2300 to the price of the
Audi - hopefully it will not apply
to the Volvo.
A fully loaded (without versitility package
and child booster seat) is $43K. Imagine that
we could create the R model with options
on top of the V70R T-5:
Premium interior $2000
Larger engine $2500
Active suspension $1000
Better wheels $500
Brembo brakes $1200
total msrp $51,200
The brembo "big brake package " is $4k
aftermarket - the $1200 is just my
estimate of the incremental cost.
The Audi folks were supprised at the
difference in price between a A6 4.2 and
the S6 when it came out last year. All
this cool stuff adds up.
Plus, discounts will most likely be
limited, so we pay MSRP 8-( I would
be happy with a $46K MSRP, but I am
not expecting one.

Well, you never know. They haven't alluded to anything yet, but when Audi returned to the USA with their first (in a while) S model, the S4, they priced it quite low to get themselves back on the map. At the time, you could get into an S4 for $38K. Now they're expecting the new model to come in much closer to the BMW M3's $50K plus.
The S60 and V70 need to reestablish Volvo in the performance fold. They'd be smart to make the cars the current performance bargain.

I am #1 on the waiting list - my
dealer had not even heard of the
car yet! Ocean race blue, manual
transmission, analine leather, 18" wheels.
When the price sheet comes in, I will
make up my mind - $51K or lower I
go with the Volvo, more and I buy a
used 2002 Audi S6. The difference in
power between the Audi and my 850 turbo
is enormous, I had tears of joy in my
eyes after the test drive. It took a
couple of days after that before my
850 felt like it had any power at all.
I think that the Volvo V70R will be
even faster than the Audi, the
Audi has 17% more weight (4100 vs 3500 lbs)
and only 13% more power (340 vs 300 hp)
and 5% more torque (310 vs 295).

Its not their fault if Volvo NA fails
to give them timely information.
Anyway, any dark blue would be fine.
I have heard from various sources though that at least the V70 R will get Alcantara inserts in full leather seats. They are still working on finalizing different set ups.

Yannis

With the Haldex system, what is the
ratio of power to the front and rear tires
in dry conditions? Will the V70R drive
like a front-wheel car most of the time?
