I have the new V70RAWD, and find the turning circle much worse than the previous V70R, due to fatter tyres(? ) Is there anything I can do to improve this, as am often called "Bloody Volvo Driver" when I stop 4 lanes of traffic to do a U turn!

Hmm, NO
Only way is put on two size smaller wheels and tires tires (which you really can't because of the brakes)

Ruth;
U-turn?! Floor the gas, jerk the handbrake and flip the steering violently first left then right (for a right U-turn).
Enjoy.
George Dill

Easy answer is do not do u-turns on a MAJOR four lane road with traffic. Go into a driveway and do a Y-turn. Or go into a parking lot a few feet and turn wide and then back out. Not brain surgury. Think of it as the cost of doing business in a fancy V70RAWD.

The increased body roll helps weight transfer and therefore the rear end to come around in a more progressive and controllable manner.

Yesterday I test drove a 2006 V70R and when I turned it around my sales guy said it was a function of the oversized disc brakes. Made sense to me but I'm not a 'mechanic' guy.

Umm...no. Typical sales person response. There has to be room under the hood for the wheels to turn into. I5 and I6 motors mounted sideways take up a lot of room, room the tires can't use. I remember reading that the Toyota Camry's 4-cylinder model turns 2 feet better than the V-6 because there is more room under the engine bay in the 4-cylinder for the tie rods to move. Brake rotors have nothing to do with it at all. Tire size, yes, but not rotor size.

That shouldn't be correct for the Camry. An inline 4 is longer than a V6.
Maybe the V6 has wider tires.

Touche. I bet it is the tires that cause the higher rating. The V-6 engine bay definitely is a lot more crowded though. Trans-verse V engines.
