Anyone know if the R is prewired to install the factory subwoofer? Dealer and their service dept. for some reason dont have an answer.

I believe it is prewired. But the dealer still took several hours to install mine. It's probably a little difficult to do. But the sound is awesome once you have installed.

Yes, prewired. no, not difficult to install.

Trim the insulation:

set in the sub:

put on the cover:

and don't even think of trying to get this to fit - it doesn't if you didn't get it from the factory, the foam is completely different! (at least mine is)

That's very interesting. I was looking to do this but was told I could not keep the grocery bag holder with it installed. Seems like you were able to!

Interesting that the '06 Battery is butt naked sitting out there. My '04 Battery has a big black cover over it.

They "decontented" the cover in late '04. My '05 is naked as are the '06 models. I looked at doing a retro fit, but looked like some bracket attach points were no longer there.

Have an 04' V70R and also got my subwoofer installed before delivery, but it was not ordered with the car. Every thing was pre wired and my tools also fit with the the foam I have.
DOn't know weather they exchanged the foam or whether I reused the stock one.

Where did you purchase the sub? I understand that the cover cost over $100.00

Re: V70R subwoofer installion (Bavaria R)

Is the installation of the subwoofer need an ugrade of the whole audio system ? (Do we need to update the software of the HU-850)
Sorry for my lack in english, but a question for Chris : does the photo of your installation comes from the original Subwoofer from Volvo or is it a special kit ?
I just registered for a XC70 Summum last saturday and I wondered if the Subwoofer could take place like Chris show us.
ps : once again sorry for my english

Re: V70R subwoofer installion (Toucouleur)

I've been trying to find out about the software bit myself. From MY 05- it seems the part # changed for this, and along with it, a required software download is required. I guess that many have installed it in the past without doing the software downnload. But I'm wondering if it controls some equalizer settings, or crossover settings.
Complete kit
V70 00-, V70 R, XC70 01-, 05- 30730 122-6
V70 00-, V70 R, XC70 01-, -04 30664 326-3
+ Application, subwoofer (1)
V70 00-, V70 R, XC70 01-, 05- 30752 133-6
+ Application, AUM upgrade
V70 00-, V70 R, XC70 01-, 05- 30677 014-0
Ordered according to separate procedures and downloaded using VIDA, for MY 05- see technical journal 8595 for correct download sequence for the software.
Re: V70R subwoofer installion (JRL)

A couple questions:
1. Where does the other end of the harness connect? (HU or Amp)
2. Does the sub work for the 603(model #?) and 803 or just the 803?
The reason I am asking this is because it seems like if the S60 has the same HU and amp as the V70 all that would need to be done is to get the right cables and plug them in and run them to the back.

-Luke
