Has anyone out there heard if they will be offering these as an option?
I would love to be able to mount a bike or ski rack.
Thanks,
-Ian

Re: V70R roof rails? (goneskiian)

I asked my dealer the very same question when I ordered my V70R. He called me back a couple of days later and told me they are standard on this model. If you look at http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=6827, it is clearly stated that they are not standard.
I have seen lots of pictures of this car and some of them show the vehicle with the rails and some don't. I also saw the car at the Detroit auto show and it had rails on it. Inquiring minds want to know

Re: V70R roof rails? (cvs)

Please, I hope roof rails are not standard on the V70R. Their ability to carry additional weight is useless and IMO they mess up the design lines on the wagon. For those rare occasions when I need to carry bulky items, I use the Volvo removable roof rails that use the rain gards for support. They can carry much more weight and, more importantly, when you are done you can remove them.

Re: V70R roof rails? (GrecianVolvo)

Yannis,
From the few threads I've read here you seem to be somewhat of an expert (meant as a compliment). Will the roof rails come as an option at least?
Thanks,
-Ian

You can also get an aftermarket roof rack, Thule or Yakima are 2 good ones.
RJ

Re: V70R roof rails? (Volvo Grrr)

RJ,
Thanks. Yup, that's the plan for bike/ski attachments. I just don't want the rack attaching to the door jamb like on my current car. It causes the door to leak when it really pours down rain. Which is plenty often here in Seattle.
-Ian

So they are attached by screwing (I'm assuming) the rails to the roof? So in order to install them, you need to remove the roof liner?
RJ

That is where the load bars clip on.
Yannis

That is real nice. On the Passats, you need to take the roof liner out and unbolt the roof rack. Pain the arse if you have a sedan and not a wagon.
RJ
