Re: V70R AWD with sattelite 17" racing (BenES)
there's a place in Philadelphia named after Ben Franklin where you can feel this for yourself. it's a hands-on kind of place; the exhibits are set-up such that you get to know first-hand what's what in the world of mechanics and physics
there's a room devoted to electricity, and a pretty neat demonstration of what "work" is ... most of us have seen a horse, so it's not hard to imagine what a "horsepower" is. but what about a kilowatt?
they have a bench with an automotive alternator/generator attached to a hand crank, with the load being selectable among various lightbulbs...a flashlight bulb, a 60 watt incandescant, automobile headlights, etc.
so you crank the crank to spin the generator, and it's pretty easy, as you might expect, then you switch in the flashlight bulb and hey! you can actually feel that it takes work! Cool! when you switch on the automobile headlight it almost stops you dead in your tracks! you have to re-grip and broaden your stance, bend a little and put your back into it.
some people think changing your air filter from Volvo stock to K&N makes a difference, the move the horns from the intercooler, and bore-out their throttle bodies...then why drive with your lights on when racing?
but you're probably right...a couple of 55 watt bulbs probably won't make the difference in a casual street race.
