So the 850's had a notorious weak point in the fuel pump. Of course, I didn't know about this until mine decided to quit one day, stranding my wife in a parking lot. Not much warning at all, although afterwards she reported that it hadn't been running as smoothly as it could have been.
When the one in my Audi 90 went, it generated a progressively louder whine as the end approached. As that car was my daily at the time, I was a lot more sensitive to it, and was able to replace it without anyone being stranded.
After driving my new-to-me V70 for a week now, I've noticed that there is a fairly high pitched whining audible at low speeds. Very similar to the one that the Audi produced. Not being that familiar with the car yet, I don't know if this is a normal noise or whether I should be high-tailing it back to the dealer that sold me the car to try and get them to replace it under their 30 day/1,000 mile warranty.
I've also noticed that when the car is cold, there is a noise that sounds like it could be the turbo whistling coming from the engine, except that it happens very low in the rev range. Low enough for me to wonder whether it really is the turbo or some other piece of spinning equipment that is noisy until warmed up.
Opinions and comments on either noise welcomed......

Re: V70 T5 Fuel pump? (MineMapper)

So the lack of responses here tells me that either no one else is hearing or has heard these noises, or I'm suffering new car sensitivity and should just shut up and enjoy the car.......
If anyone stumbles across this thread at some point in the future and knows different, please let me know.

Not that I will know a darn thing about it, but is this occurring all the time, when your gas rank is about 1/2 full, etc.?

Re: V70 T5 Fuel pump? (VTT5)

Hmmm, good point. I'm only on the second tank, so I'll monitor more closely how the noise relates to the level in there.

Re: V70 T5 Fuel pump? (MineMapper)

Well, it was there last night at 1/4 tank, and still there after I filled up this morning. Seems to be more prevalent when the engine is cold. Does anyone know if the V70 still uses a pump that is submerged in the tank?
