I'm just a lowly 1998 V70R owner...sorry I don't have a 2000. I definitely need to take some pics of my car....just installed IPD springs, 20% tint front, 50% tint everything else, no roof rails, no rear spoiler.....just plain old fun!!!
Cyphos, your R is looking pretty fine!!! I love those Titans. I would love to get them, but I think I'd trash them here in the DC area.

Awesome car man...I wish I could afford something like that, but for the time being, my 850R will do

Here is a pic of my 2000 V70R. Not the best picture, but good enough to give you a sense for the car. The car is stock at this point. Am hunting for an extra set of "R" wheels if anyone knows of some at a good price.

That's a lovely R Cyphos, but why have you included the Volvo factory-fitted caravan?
Such a pity - but at least you can overtake 2CVs.
(And I know you're going to tell me you can top 100mph with the van on the back; tsk, tsk...)

It belongs to a friend of mine.
Here's another pic of my car and if you'd like to see TME catback, check it out. It's the same one iPD's selling, right?
http://www.atkoy.com/images/VolvoV70RAWD/Volvo_V70R_AWD_rear.jpg
BTW, has anyone of you had any problems with your tranny? I'm getting pretty rough shifting. I really hope that it has only adapted to my "sporty" way of driving

Is you car under warrnaty? Regardless keep terack of mileage and dates regarding your observations and C.Y.A.!!! I am leary about this problem...as they went from 4sp to 5sp in 2000 and added some juice. READ COVERUP!!!
Jim
[This message has been edited by TravelingIncognito (edited 04-28-2002).]
Jim,
I started to worry about my tranny when shifting from 2nd to 3rd under half throttle didn't happen as I would have expected. Between shifting the rpm's rose about 300-400 before the 3rd gear took in. You know, like when you're driving a stick and don't depress the gas pedal while using the clutch. This has happened for three times.
I took the car to the dealer and they updated the TCM program. Cost me another 90 bucks... After that the tranny of course didn't remember me and the shifting was so soft. And slow. And now it's back the way it was, no weird shifts from 2nd to 3rd though, just rough shifting.
I drove a 92 Vette last week and I have to say that the shifting was better than my Volvo's. In a car almost ten years older than mine.
What if you drive using only up to the 4th gear? Is it like mine; 1st-2nd-3rd-4th-revs drop, almost 5th gear-4th? This can't be right

Cyphos
What do you mean when you say rough? The replacement tranny still is a little clunky around 2-3 shift. Other than that it is quite smooth. When I started to experience problems it was the 2-3 upshift and a couple of times the revs went nuts during heavy pedal passing maneuver...the tranny just seemed to disengage causing the revs to jump to near redline quickly. I took the gas off nad the car shifted. All this happened several times and then the car went into "limp home" mode.
There was litlle warning of impending doom. So far so good on the new tranny but I am leasry about it! Fortunately I have an extended warranty to 100K and while I would like trouble free driving I will not alter my lead foot style...this is an R!
If I have trouble Volvo will fix it under warranty.
Tell me more about the "rough" shifts. I went through the latest tranny cu update after the trouble but the fluid was full of metal
Jim

Incognito, if your autobox is "declutching" under high revs I'd get it sorted pronto - that sort of thing can kill you in an overtaking manoeuvre.
You've changed the ATF so that's not the problem; it sounds like either an electrical glitch in the selector (PNP switch?) or something more serious.

The passing maneuver in question was a downhill 2 lane onramp merging into one lane...lucky to avoid real trouble but I was stranded just outside perhaps the worst housing project in America for two hours waiting for OnCall to arrive.
The driver said that the shift circuit you mentioned was a fairly common occurence and I hoped for the best. The dealer found significant metal in the fluid and shipped the tranny off to Volvo and promptly dropped in a new tranny.
So far so good...trounced on a riced up Honda last night, pulled away briskly til the 120 mph tight sweeper got the best of my worn front TYRES!! Note to Self...get new tyres preferably 17's with a little grip before you try this again!
Thanks Simon
Jim
[This message has been edited by TravelingIncognito (edited 04-29-2002).]

Yeah, kinda sucks, doesn't it? Have others judge what you do and put on the spot light?
Well, I'm sure not in the mood to start a whole flame war regarding to how I was bashed b/c I spend my own hard-earned money on my car, and all I got was some sour grape reply from fellow Volvo owners.
But yeah...bragging about driving at speed of 120 mph on public road isn't exactly going to be too welcome since few guys were a bit jumpy on the other thread.
Yup, you might not meant to brag about doing 120 mph on public roads, I wouldn't know. And I'm sure you wouldn't know why I've done what I have done to the C70.
Now...I do feel much better to get that outta my chest. Good luck with your car...
[This message has been edited by The_one_n_only (edited 04-30-2002).]

Don't like how others get all judgmental and make assumptions and think they know you?
No, I know you are smart and courteous enough to do that kinda stunt on a track.
Sour grape? Yeah, I know how some people can be when they cannot achieve what others have. Oh..wait, you're trying to say that I'm being sour grape b/c I'm missing out the almighty MY 2000 V70R? Nah, not a chance; especially seeing what kinda people are behind the wheel of the R, already turned me off.
Jim, I think you are reading too much into the name Swedespeed. I can assure you they didn't have this web site up to promote people driving at excessive speed of 120 mph public roads or tracks. You'd probably need to read the introduction and other sections to understand what this site is all about.
Notice that we don't have a 'Racing story' or the so-called 'Kills'?
Yes, I would guess you were driving on the track with that speed...kinda scary that some people would do just want to flex some muscle to show a Honda what he can do.

Especially when driving slow.
I think that I'm gonna need a new tranny... If I remember right, a manual tranny was offered in R AWD (97 or 98?) Is it possible to mount it in a 2000 R? Using brand new Volvo parts, of course. The other option is that I'm going to get another kind of a torque converter with the new auto tranny, please read below:

quote:
From TME.se:There's one problem with the AWD R automatic. The low stall speed with the factory torque converter does not work well together with the maximum torque performance upgrade used for the FWD models. It's causing to much slip in the transmission and with to much added low rpm engine torque, it will overheat with expensive repairs as a result. For heavy duty work, the solution is to replace the torque converter with a unit that has a higher stall speed.

Where can I get one??? What do you think??

What do you think??
Cyphos
Sounds similar to my experience with the R...actually both of my R's are a little rough but only in or around 2-3 shift (up OR down). I would suggest talking to Scott Hart at ipd as he has experience working with TME and the R models. The V70 R was never available in the States in manual form.
Take the car to your dealer and demand some answers...also take time to document yourself the problems and get the dealer to document your exact complaints on a service form for your own protection. You do not want to have an expensive repair esp if you are going out of pocket.
Jim
