I am looking at purchasing a new wagon. Both I'm interested in are 1998 V70's, one an R, the other an AWD. Both similar mileage 57k and 66k. Both seem to be very clean and well maintained. The basic difference, other than performance, is that the R has spent 9 years in southern California and 1 in Florida, whereas the AWD is from NYC area. I'm leaning toward the R because of the no winter status. The price difference is about $12K for the R and $9K for the AWD.
Can I get some help with my descision.

Re: V70 AWD vs V70 R? (PeterE)

Personally I wouldn't touch the AWD anymore. These models do not have that good of a history when it comes to the AWD driveline. If the car was maintained wrong you might be up for some pretty extreme maintenance costs.
Good luck with the purchase!

SAME driveline as the R.
Not worth 9K, nor is a 98 R worth 12K,at those low miles as long as the tires were all the same tread depth he should be fine with both

Betcha it's taken a beating.
I do not allow the VR into the 5 boroughs. Strictly forbidden!
