Robin,
Your HU-613 is manufactured by Mitsubishi (MELCO) and will not work with Alpine CD changers. Period. If you haven't already, you should read this thread: http://www.swedespeed.com/ubb/Forum22/HTML/000047.html
Last year, I contacted Soundgate, a manufacturer of CD changer interfaces, to see if they have plans to produce an adapter for Volvo HU-xxx series head units to Sony CD changers since I had a leftover CDX-805 from my previous car. Their reply was that they may have a unit to market sometime this year. I keep checking their website but no new announcements so far.
The only other alternative would be to purchase a Mitsubishi CD Changer but it is my understanding MELCO does not import mobile audio products to North America. If you had the resources, you could import a CD-5852C (http://www.carnavi.melco.co.jp/audio/products/changer/cd5852c.html) from Japan. Still, there are no guarantees that it will work with a Volvo head unit. And you will still need a software download to your car in order to recognize the changer.
