My 1999 Gen 1 v70xc is at 167K km and is starting to show its age. Plus now that we've got a C30, it seems like a clunky tank.
I have some leads on V50AWD manual transmission cars (I love rowing) and was wondering how reliable is the V50 AWD.
Our FWD C30 is great and has been no problem (touch wood)
But our 1999 cross country is a money pit (albeit a very comfortable one). Between check engine lights, ETM, and bevel gears it is beyond its best before date.
How are the new AWD (esp V50) in terms of service reliability?
Thanks
Cal
Re: V50AWD reliability (almostarctic)

I have an 05 S40 T5 AWD and love it, no real problems besides the PCV recall. I've owned it for the past year and always received compliments on all aspects of it: looks, sound, ride, performance, etc. I have people come up to me and ask what it is (I debadged it) and that they really like the looks of it, and they are blown away by it being a Volvo. I say go for it! The V50 is one of the only vehicles I would drive that is a wagon.

Re: V50AWD reliability (flying uittos)

I'm at 78000 kilometres on my 2006 T5 AWD. No mechanical problems, just a few electronic gremlins that have been dealt with under warranty.

Re: V50AWD reliability (Kallvin22)

We've been rocking the V50 AWD since new in 05 and we've had ZERO issues. Some rattles and such, but mechanically it has been very sound. No strangeness at all, just rock solid. We love the car, good mix of function and fun. I haven't been pleased with the paint, but then again if you drive up to Mt. Hood a bunch you're bound to get some rock chips...
Re: V50AWD reliability (almostarctic)

Just clocked 59K miles on Mrs. Tomkat's '05 V50 T5 AWD. Exactly Zero - Nada - No service or maintenance issues other than FSM and wear items.
Replaced brakes and rotors in the rear at 50K - and just started the 3rd set of tires (17" Sags and Bridgestone M+S rubber).
AWD works flawlessly. We spend a lot of time in the Cascades and Coast Range skiing in the winter. Last winter here in the Seattle area had more snow and ice than ever. V50 was our vehicle of choice as soon as snow depth dropped to 8" in our driveway.
Other than a few paint chips and a parking lot door ding or two , still looks great.
Umbra (grey?) T-Tech interior is tough to keep clean...especially with 2 dogs in the back. Grey carpet is also difficult to keep clean - but black, all weather floormats help greatly.
I'm jealous if you have a line on a 6spd MT V50 T5 AWD. This wasn't an OSD option when we ordered ours in 2005.
I have the 6spd MT in my 08 C70 T5 (FWD only unfortunately) - love it!
