Hello fellow swedespeeders,
Just thought I'd share the news. This morning I was able to hit 155 mph (maybe a tad more because I have 235 40 18s, I saw 155 mph, but actual speed perhaps 157 mph?) in my bsr'ed stage 3 V50 on the autobahn. while it took a few days to get the correct software from bsr, I'm happy it finally worked.
IMO, this is about as fast as a station wagon needs to be.
Good stuff.
Was the car still pulling at that point or was it out of power?

Re: V50 does 155 mph (V50_T5)

Did anyone pass you while you were testing? Some guy in a Porshe passed me like I was standing still last time I was doing that speed.

Re: (quick)

The car was pulling somewhat. but was at its near limit. I was suppost to get a 270 km/h limiter, however because of BSR misinfo I ended up getting a 250 km/h limiter. so with my .4 inch larger diameter tires , I figuared I hit the limiter at a real 255 km/h= 157 mph. IMO , not limited , 160-162 mph should be possible with the bsr stage 3. too bad we're still limited, but 157 mph is really fast enough for a station wagon.
I didn't get passed while testing, but from time to time I do see a 190 mph plus car .

What is BSR stage? cat-back + DP + software?
Do you have any high speed performance numbers like 60-125mph or so?
The life @ 155mph (250km/h) has a different meaning

Re: (ZAF)

the bsr stage 3 has the 3" dp cat back and software correct.
I don't have any "measured numbers" sorry . All I can say for now is that power seems to be the same up to 2 K and then it really kicks in after that. perhaps a sophiticated torque limited program at low rpm to limit tire spin? 2500 plus is where the power is felt. normal slow sub 2 k shifting is almost stock.

Where as in the stock setup you are getting your max boost at lower rpm but you won't get any more while the rpm growes. If anything the boost is dropping much sooner than tuned car.
This explains the flat torque curve of the stock ECU and the mid-rpm range peak torque curve of the tuned ECU. And this is why the tuned ecu produces more lag than a stock ecu.
I bet you that your midrange torque/acceleration has imporved so much that whenever you want to over take you have grin on your face ..
I've been there before, but now its normal for me (got used to it ).
So I am guessing your car is producing some where in the 260~270bhp range and max torque ~380Nm is that right?

Re: (ZAF)

yeah , makes since . the car fells actually slower up to 2000 then violently quick after that. this is my first turbo car so I'm not only getting used to a turbo but a modified one. bsr quotes 278 hp and 441 nm, I've also got an K+N typhoon intake which peaks at an estimated 13.61 hp @3900 so optimistically I should have 292 hp and like 445 nm , however , it's more realistically in the 270 hp range with perhaps 400 nm. that's just my guess but bsr quotes 278 hp and 441 nm.

Re: (_.braveheart._)

changing to a larger turbo such as the one from the S60/V70 R isn't that easy because the turbo housing is enclosed to not allow a larger turbo. while anything is possible with enough money , we just don't have the bolt on ability of say a Vw 1.8 T to add a larger turbo. the current available tuning limits of a s40n/v50 are around 280 hp. I'm at that limit. would love to see a large turbo kit for our motors but .... I wouldn't hold my breath.

I will give you an example.
A 1st generation S40T4 (stock has 200bhp 300Nm) was measured to produce ~210bhp and ~320Nm stock.. When upgraded they got numbers like ~245bhp.. It could be that T4 was one of the fastest ones to get out of the factory, but then again when you look at different cars most of the cars they test have higher numbers compared to stock or other dyno results.
Their S60R campaign was something like 355bhp from a software which all tuners found impossible.
So if BSR are saying 278 bhp think more in the line of 265bhp (give or take). And an airfilter will not give 13bhp increase (atleast not in my books). I always say that airfilters and cat-back exahusts are there to make the car breath in and exhale better. This is why most of the softwares can run on both stock and modified cat-backs and same goes for the airfilters. Things like DP and I/Cs are there for better cooling and change in the spool up time need a different software, hence produce more output.
About swaping to R turbo, I've never worked with KKK turbos so I have no idea. I only did Mitsu turbos (which is what my car has).
I have visited the 260km/h many times with my S40. Never got the needle to pass it. I don't know if the car could or not. I always either slow down immediately or keep a constant speed just under it (~250km/h for a short while ofcourse). The difference before and after tuning is, the distance the car needed to get to ~210km/h with a stock car is what it needs now to get to ~250km/h.

Re: (ZAF)

I wasn't refering to a filter alone but the new typhoon intake.
http://www.knfilters.com/searc...000TP,
their "estimated" gain takes it to the 1/100th hp at 14.61 @ 3900 , the BSR stage 3 = 278 hp and 441 nm, (btw, stage 3 includes a 3" dp, I went with the Ferreta because it includes a superior race cat)
so 292 hp with a tad more torque say 445 nm? but realistically with both 270 hp and 400 nm? that's my guess. the typhoon system, even if it delivers 1/2 the hp K+n estimates add that to 265 and this is still around 270.
don't know , for sure , I don't have any measured numbers stock or now. I know I hit 0- anything much quicker. while pessimistic at times I don't think the bsr stage 3 plus typhoon intake delivers anything less than 270 and 400 nm.
I'm happy. would be perhaps happier with a larger turbo but hey ,
btw, a last gen T4 manual with large turbo /intercooler upgrade would be sick! there are a few T4 owners here hitting 260 km/h.
good luck

The T4 is sick fullstop ..
A T4 with the blessing of ATM is a different world.
There is a T4 owner in Sweden who took his car to ATM, left it there for a while, then picked it up again with 657bhp He did a run from 0-215km/h (0-135mph) on the track with a bad launch in less than 12 seconds. He could've atleast shaved almost a full second from.. he did it again and got something like 11s or so (thats 1/4 mile run).
Tuned T4s have no big problems hitting 260km/h.

Re: (Nebor)

I think a dyno on any of our cars (especially on a hot day) would break our hearts. I'm not saying I have 290 plus hp or 445 plus nm. nor 270 and 400 nm (that's just my guestimate) but I'm definately faster. I was limited to 130 mph, now I hit 158 mph. pretty fun btw. my T5 had the ability to spill coffee , now I can spill coffee quicker.
but take a car like an Integra GSR, add dc-sports header, cat-back, cold air, underdrive pulley set, large injectors, throtle body and this won't yield any where near what the BSR stage 3 will get a T5.
won't argue about exact power figuares, just be nice enough to move right if I'm behind you. I'll give the friendly left turn signal w/ repeated high beam flash.

Re: (V50_T5)

It is claimed that the P1 S40/V50T5 have one of the best intercooler setup in any volvo ever. I was impressed when I drove it. I picked it up from the dealer with temp ~40C and once I put my foot on the pedal it moved immediately without any turbo lags or hesitations due to heat.
I've written a review about it around two years ago it still somewhere around on the internet.
If you haven't read it and are interested I will search for it.

Re: (T5_awd)

The previous generation S40s were wild (atleast wilder than the P1s). Even with a stock 2.0T you really could feel every single hp you had ..
Although when tuned cause some traction problems off the mark the traction in general of the car is very impressive, let alone its highspeed road grip.

Re: (ZAF)

Yeah ZAF,
I'd love to see it. I really wanted to buy a T4 but couldn't get a us spec nor a manual trans. seen some sick examples , the current after market really needs to catch up to come close to the last version examples.
