Hello again,

Does anyone know why the V40 does not have a sunroof spoiler that pops up when the sunroof goes back but the s40 does? This prevents the sunroof in the V40 from opening all the way without having the annoying chopping sound!

!? My S40 doesn't have the sunroof spoiler... I just went to the garage and checked. One of my recent S40 loaners (see brake light post) did have the front spoiler.

Mmm... wondering if this is something that has been phased into production. My S40 was built in October '00. I feel a retrofit coming on....

This has to be fiqured out because i cant even use my sunroof. It is just there.

When you press it one touch back it goes back but stops about 2 inches before diassapearing. you can press the button again and it will go all the way in. THIS PISSES ME OFF!

it such a waste of space and looks like grap when the sunroof stops half way before going in!

I dont think it is something they brought in to the new cars because i saw a 01 s40 right beside mine at the dealership when i picked it up and it had a pop up spoiler!

The reason that the one-touch sunroof stops 2-inches before going fully open is because Volvo has determined that is the optimal open position so that there is no wind buffeting inside the cabin of the car. You can of course open it all the way.

The reason that some Volvo's do not come with a sunroof spoiler is that Volvo was having problems with owners complaining that the spoiler was vibrating at high speed and also causing more wind buffeting inside of the cabin. This is why they removed the spoiler entirely for a time period. I am not sure, but they might have redesigned a new one and they are showing up on some 01' cars.

I hope this helps to clear up some things a little!

My 2001 S40 does not include the wind guard as per Indy's note. Frankly I'm glad it's not on there, it looks quite bad.

anyone check out the owner's manual about the sunroof? It says that Volvo doesn't recommend driving while the sunroof is open. I think that I probably would have not spent $1200 on that option if I can only use the sunroof when the car is parked.

Joe,

That is pretty funny! The owners manual for my car definitely does not say that.
I guess driving with the moonroof open is a safety hazard, because people might fly out of the vehicle.

That must also be the reason why there is no wind guard, because Volvo does not want you to be moving while the moonroof is open. Go figure! Wow, $1200 dollars spent on a parked car with the roof open!

What's with this "one touch" sunroof? I thought there was something wrong with the loaner because the sunroof went back to the (1st) open position. On my car the roof opens only as long as I'm actually pushing the button. I'm not complaining though as I'd rather have it that way.

With the "one touch" control, is there a way to stop it before its fully open? Or do you open then close it to where you want it?

Just when I think I have this car figured out....
