About to put some hard earned cash towards a brand new valentine one.

I'm already convinced my friend has one in his GTI but I just wanna see what fellow volvo owners have to say about this nifty device.

Thanks in advance.

Re: V1 Owners. (PasS40ion)

Had a V1 and it is outdated to radar detectors out on the market. I prefer the Beltronics STI (have). The thing is amazing and totally undetectable (I need this because of travel). I had a Passport 8500 X50 and it was a good radar detector as well. If you live in an area where detectors are legal I would suggest the Passport 9500I or 8500 X50 or Beltronics RX65 as both are a damn good radar detector and are substantially cheaper than the overated V1.

Passport 9500 or Beltronics STI is the way to go IMO. The Valentine 1 is way too huge and gaudy for me. I hate those arrows, especially since if I'm doing something stupid I figure I'm going to slow down wherever the signal is coming from anyway.

^ Good adice! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I've owned most on that list and have found over time... 20/20 vision is my best radar detector. If you are gonna speed (+15mph) then one day you WILL get a ticket - radar detector or not. Keep a watchful eye on the horizon and downshift instead of braking! Thats my advice!

Anyone (with more than 1 years driving experience) out there with a radar detector never been pulled?

Exactly.

I have a Passport 8500. It's been getting the job done for long enough now.

money/design isn't an issue I know its extremely overhyped but it seems like it lives up to most of the hype.

What I like about it is the arrows and the multiple bogey warning especially with the speed traps i encounter on my long commutes on long texas highways.

I've had some historic speeding problems... With radar detector, without radar detector - tickets... If you want to drive fast you will get caught eventually. S40 boy is right on +15mph and you're gonna get the ticket the downshift helps, and the best thing is to be FOCUSED ON DRIVING - eyes way down the road.

In my old age I've found all 3+ hour drives will average to approx 60 mph. The true secret is leaving on said long trip with a full tank of gas and making your only stops for gas! All about average speed!

Re: (V50PDX)

If someone speeds (15+) they should be ready to deal with consequences but many times its easy to fall into a speed trap that law enforcement tends to set up in my area 70 to a 45 mph zone almost instantly for instance on long commute sometimes I can lose focus just in time for a ticket!

Not looking for 100% immunity just for a little insurance.
