Hi everyone, well for awhile now, I looked into how it would be possible to use a switchblade style key fob for an older S60. I think the new S60s starting from 2004, got the new style fob. I have an 01 S60. Well what I did was buy one of these "switchblade" fobs for an S60 several months ago. I didn't realize till now how I should open up the casing by buying a torx screw set from Home Depot. I opened it and after some fiddling as to how to open the casing, I discovered Volvo used the same exaclt transformer (green computer chip) in these "switchblade" fobs. So what I did was take out the old transformer from my current fob to the switchblade one. Walla! it works! All I need to do is find out how Volvo can cut a key that cuts off of a switch style blank. LOL I just thought this was really neat. What do you guys think? - Brian

Personally, I would prefer a transmitter and key versus the switchblade design. At least with a transmitter, I could add extra keys to the chain and not hit my knee with either the keys or the switchblade fob.

I found it so suprising how even the dealerships, and Volvo's Customer Service told me that even programming a brand new "switchblade" fob would be impossible to do for older S60s. All you have to do is program a chip using the older fob design and place it in the other. And I don't think it is hard to find a blank key to fit the "switchblade" fob to copy off of the orginal key. I bought the fob set on eBay for something like $20.

I suppose that some part of the fob would also need to be programmed in order to handshake with the car to allow the engine to be started (Even though the keyless remote now works, if a blank key was just cut, it shouldnt be able to start the car, correct?)
