We are considering buying XC90 from a non-volvo dealer. The car has everything we would like, and its under manufacturer's warranty. However, the fact that its non-CPO is getting us worried. Is it possible to buy Volvo safe and secure for this car after we purchase it from a non-volvo dealer? Or is that something only the original owner could buy?

Our thinking is we could pay for the price of vehicle and buy safe and secure for 7-8 years and still come out ahead of CPO vehicles available in the area (we are in Boston metro area).

You should be able to buy at least some sort of extended/pre-owned Volvo warranty, no matter if you bought from a Volvo dealer or not. However, they all have to pass a certain (i.e. CPO) inspection before they can get warrantied – getting that inspection done by a Volvo dealer before you buy would likely be wise!
