US XC-60 - fuel required

I drove the XC-60 and was really impressed with the engine since I have an XC-90 with 3.2

I asked the salesman if the XC-60 required premium fuel since it had a turbo and he said NO.

This is the first time I have heard of an engine with a turbo not requiring premium fuel.

Also, liked the two position lock and unlock switch vs my one position switch on the XC-90

Volvo typically recommends 91 octane or higher for best performance (both from a pwer and efficiency standpoint). You can feed it crap octane and the computer will detune the performance and possibly the gas mileage accordingly.

While you will get optimal performance with 91 octane fuel, in the real world Regular 87 works fine. The engine management system will cope with the octane chosen. The only time I bother to put 91 in a modern Volvo is if I'm going to a track day or towing a trailer in summer time.
