heya guys,
need urgent info plz...just sent my 2.5 xc90 year 2004 for its 90000km service which requires its timing belt to be replaced...i have also been recommended for the auxiliary belt and tensioner to be replaced...is this necessary
however my important question is on what engine oil shld be used...the authorised service centre i sent my car to insist that i shld use Castrol 0W/30 grade... However i just inquired with authorised service centre B for a second opinion and they said that Castrol 10w/60 or Shell 5w/30 shld be used and the 0W/30 is only for 2.5 XC90's year 2005 onwards.the .. Now which service centre is telling the truth and i am confused..
any help would be greatly appreciated..
thank you

Re: URGENT HELP... engine oil grade for 04 XC90 (bikz)

Take the new belts as recommended...
First don't panic .... The grades are acceptable as follows:
0W30
5W30
10W30
0W40
10W40
20W50
The grade selected can correspond to the temperature the vehicle is being operated in lighter for cold heavier for hot. Lighter weight oils will reveal leaks faster and break down quicker if raced on. Lighter oils will also provide an increase in gas mileage as the engine doesn't have to work as hard through it. Take swimming through water to mud as an analogy. You would tire alot faster in the mud... K back to oil... You will want to use a heavier oil for more spirited or harder driving, example would be towing or constant mountainous driving... Last pick a quality oil. I use either AMSOIL or Redline... Ultimately it's up to you, but the oil is the blood of your engine if you could put the best in your body wouldn't you.
 10W60

Re: URGENT HELP... engine oil grade for 04 XC90 (kmg_S60R)

thanks s60 R....
i actually contacted the manufacturers here in Malaysia (our cars are locally manufactured/installed here by Volvo Cars Malaysia (VCM)) and they told that the right oil recommended for my car, based on our weather is the Shell 5W/30....and this is the oil which has been used throughout i think as well....

Re: URGENT HELP... engine oil grade for 04 XC90 (dmd)

I would never ever use 10W-60, and certainly not in a tropical climate. Extremely wide-range oils use too many additives to achieve it, and as a result don't have the same longevity as straight oils. I'd use 10W-30, personally, and I only go to 5W-30 in the winter here in New England.
Tom.

If you have a Turbo, then use synthetic oil. Any Synthetic xW30 or xW40 will do just fine.
