Okay, just installed Evolve's blue upper bushing, and noticed the engine seeming louder... Is this just the increase in trasmitted vibration throughout the engine bay causing the bay (or maybe the cab) to resonate more? (BTW on the engine mount... I hate my clutch less, and at 39K, the stock rubber was looking ugly already!)

on a less hostile approach, yes, that is exactly what you are experiencing. popping in a stiffer bushing/mount will always transmit more vibration and it could make it seem louder too.

It seems as though just about every thread has been discussed before, therefore I guess we should all stop posting, except for those of you that are perfect. By the way, I did a search and didn't find anything about the actual engine sound, just vibration issues, but I'm sure it's just me.

The compound is harder, but it's a spider so the overall effect is softer. The aftermarket bushings are solid.
Tom.

Then if I got them reversed, I apologize

Re: Upper engine mount question (JRL)

Were you talking about the (black) stock bushing, or the black Evolve one? I thought you meant stock. That rubber is hard, but there's less of it holding the engine.
Tom.

Re: Upper engine mount question (tmtalpey)

As a counterpoint, I had to replace my upper large engine mount today - noticed a nice vertical crack thru it on routine inspection. Dealer replaced it under warrantee - I have ~16K miles. The car now drives FANTASTIC. It improved clutch feel, front end slop, track on roads, etc. It even takes bumps better. Looking at what they did, it's a whole friggen contraption they replaced -a whole lot more than the rubber part. It looks like the geometry of the part is different in the way the car is attached to that point.
In summary, try the "new" OEM mount BEFORE you go out and consider alternatives.

Re: Upper engine mount question (Short Circuit)

I also replaced my upper engine mount today at 49,000 miles. But since I installed Eibach Pro Kit Springs and IPD rear sway bar at the same time, I don't know if the new feel of the car is attributable to the new engine mount, the springs or the sway bar. All I can say is that the car feels much better now.

i have the evolve black bushing; its supposed to be firmer than stock [which is rubber and has a hollow design, as opposed to the aftermarket solid designs]
the blue is more firm, and is what's reccomended for MT -- GT's should use the black.
