I've looked around a bit, but I can't find this/these upholstery codes anywhere. The car is a '73 145. Paint code 46 (Red). The current interior - which I suspect is original - is red carpet under black vinyl. Does anyone know if that jibes with the code 885-856?
Thanks!

The upholstery code should be stamped on the plate in the engine compartment next to the left hand hood hinge. That should allow you to confirm the code that the car came with. No telling what happened in the intervening years.

Thanks 142. Yep, the code(s) above comes from the plate. I'm not finding the code listed on any of my usual lookup sources.

There may be a reason for that. I have a sales brochure for the 1971 140 (not your year; but, bear with me). Red was available for upholstery color for both the 142/144 and 145. However, the 142/144 seats had a cloth seating surface with vinyl sides while the 145 had a vinyl seating surface. If your '73 145 has the all vinyl seats then the reason you may not be able to find any references to the upholstery code is that nobody may be making reproductions.

I only have the 140 parts manual up to 1972. If you go to the GCP web site

https://www.gcp.se/en/

they have the parts manuals on line for the 1973+ 140s. On the earlier cars the interior upholstery is listed in the body section of the manual. Be aware that the interior section of the manual goes on for pages so searching can be tedious. Once you find the upholstery section for the 145 they will generally have a couple of pages for each upholstery option with a description of the color and code which you could then use to confirm whether your upholstery code is red.

In the 1974 sales brochure, burgundy upholstery was the only available color with a red exterior on the 145. Click on the 3rd last page in the brochure linked below for a description of the color combinations.

Interesting. Thanks!

The brochure in that Hemmings link lists "Dark Red with Burgundy" as the only red variant, but there's also a picture in the brochure that shows a #46 "Red" (could be "Orange" though - it's an old pic)) wagon next to a "Dark Red" 142.

I did manage to lift this from an old eBay brochure listing. It shows Burgundy as a leather-only color, and Black vinyl at the only option for red 145's. No mention of carpet colors though:
