Understanding the S60 AWD system

Here is a simple set of examples from Haldex. I am not sure if all of these apply to the Haldex AWD system as implemented in the S60, but it is rather interesting reading...

Also, here are some graphs:

If anyone in the know would post discrepancies about this information and it's applicability to the S60 AWD that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the great information. I am pretty sure all of those control samples applies to the S60/V70/XC90. One very neat features of Haldex AWD is the 50/50 torque distribution during full-throttle starts.

At this moment only the S60 comes with this system
The XC90 will use the Haldex system, and the V70 and V70XC will be switched over to it (currently a viscous coupling system). Volvo uses the same system as Audi with the TT, but theirs is phase II, meaning it has a different casing and a couple other differences. I believe your samples here are accurate.
George, I'm looking at getting a V70 AWD next year and I just received my S60 AWD this evening. Do you know when Volvo will switch over to the Haldex on the V70?

George,

I said at this moment :)
There is no XC90 yet and the V70AWD and XC are still delivered with the old system....
That is until yesterday!
Huh? what you say??
I want to order a V70 Haldex AWD and yesterday my dealer told me that when you order a V70 AWD now it will come with the new system.
I have a VERY hard time believing this and I couldn't find any other source to confirm this but I heard a guy from Volvo HQ/Marketing saying this over the phone.
The DSTC versions seems to be Haldex.
I go back there today and ask again, and again , and agian :)

Volvo, as usual, like to keep everyone in he dark. I had to probe an even then I could not get a firm answer. But, yes, any DSTC XC or V70AWD (supposedly) will come with the new AWD. Actually, rumor has it that all V70s (AWDs and XCs) being produced starting with production week 04, Haldex will be it.

Johann,

I guess I was doing a little 'future' forcasting.

That makes sense. I seem to remember reading somewhere that engineers couldn't get DSTC to work with the VC setup because it was mechanical. The controlling impulses from the system would theoretically not be able to control the viscous coupling which is solely activated through slippage. Makes sense that DSTC cars would be Haldex.

I'll try to confirm this though.
Well,

Seems that Volvo doesn't know what products they are selling at the moment.
After an initial confirmation from Volvo Marketing about Haldex in the V70 they came back on that statement this morning after calling their factory in Sweden.
The Haldex production start is sheduled for week 35 this year! Can you believe that?
My brother drove an older model V70 AWD which was tuned to approx. 250 HP and I know from own experience that the old visco system isn't the right system for fast driving, to slow.
