I ALWAYS give my car a good going over visually before driving away ... not to say I would have been able to "see" what happened to you upon a visual inspection.
Accept that mistakes WILL happen and at least they were as accomodating as could be about solving it

BTW, My brakes squeak from time to time. I wish I could get them to mooooaaaannnnn, on those occasions ... sounds much more exotic
