Re: tyre pressures ?? (DANIELSWEM)

Conventional wisdom is at least 36PSI all the way around. I run 38PSI in the front to help reduce (albeit slightly) understeer.
moddeR

36-37psi with the 18's seem like a decent balance for me.

Re: tyre pressures ?? (S40 T5R)

I run 37.5 lbs (I have a digital tire pressure gauge ) for regular street driving, but I don't normally load the car up.
So far I have a bit less than 11K miles on the original tires and had expected to have to replace the tires after my "safety driving" experience.
Upon rotating and inspecting each tire, I found there was 7/32 tread left and they were relatively evenly worn. Except for the outer edges which had a slight bit of chunking which extended to a a lesser degree as one looked toward toward the middle rib of the tire. Interestingly, some of the rubber had gotten hot enough to melt and then resolidify on the tread on the outer to middle of the tread.

Re: tyre pressures ?? (DANIELSWEM)

The manual says 35 psi minimum, 39 optimum at 68 F. I ran 35 psi for comfort. 28 is way to low.

Re: tyre pressures ?? (stevectsai)

Hey Lead Foot, when you are ready to sell your car, call me. I will be looking for a nicely treated R. 11,000 miles with 7/32" left, thats amazing. I have not gotten more than 10,000 to 10,500 miles out of any tires yet. I have had two sets of the OEM Pirellis, three sets of Michelin PS 2's, one set of Blizzaks, and two sets of winter sport M3's and I just hit 80,000 miles. I just bought my third set of winter sport M3's. (from Jay). Getting back to tire pressures, I run 37 lbs in mine and it seems to be fine. oclv

Re: tyre pressures ?? (DANIELSWEM)

I ran mine at 38-39 (digital guage usually cold measurements) on 17's, I think it may have been a bit too much. The tires are worn much more on the centers than it is on the edges. I put it back to 35.

Re: tyre pressures ?? (pitogo)

Well, it just so happened that today my car went in for its 14.517K mi service. The dealer was going to do a balance and rotate but they called me to say the tires have no meat in the centers...arg so they'll just leave it. I will have to put on the winter boots pretty soon and replace em tires next summer. So much for higher pressures, its a trade of on wear and fuel efficiency.

Quote, originally posted by pitogo »

I ran mine at 38-39 (digital guage usually cold measurements) on 17's, I think it may have been a bit too much.
