I finally got my shift knob installed today. Like most posters in the past have said the hardest part of the install is getting the die started on the shaft. I would recommend eating your Wheaties and doing it first thing in the morning
! The knob came with two spacers, one small and one large but I opted to use none. The knob sits nicely without the spacers and is comfortable in the hand.

Tap and die kit from Lowes $40.00

http://********************/smile/emthup.gif I want to know as well!

Still juggling the thought of doing cjones16's version of his shift knob on mine http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...age=2
Looks like he just bolts on to the stock shifter without taping in a new thread.

Holy crap! I tried ordering from JEGS, and the total came up to $45 on a $9 item!

Subtotal:$8.99
Handling Charge:$4.99
Shipping:$12.10
Brokerage/GST/PST:$ 19.40
Total:$45.48

WTF!

Anyone kind enough to help me order this and shipped to your US address? I'd rather pay extra for a beer
for a SS member and the extra shipping cost for it to get up here...

I didn't order by vehicle, I clicked the box to the right that allows you to specify what you want. Sorry I meant to mention that it is 8mm X 1.25.

+1,,,

you can get the m1 abrams or they have an aluminum one which is a bit lighter for less $$ than the standard m1 as a FYI.

I actually ordered the aluminum one by accident, but wanted the satin m1, contacted TWM and they responded promptly this morning, helped me change the order. top notch customer service. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Though it's pretty simple to install these i'll do a full writeup for the challenged. I'll be interested if I can swap the oem one with this one easily enough for when it gets really cold here so I don't have to sport the M. Jackson look.

Couple differences between the Aluminum and the Weighted stainless steel shift knobs. The stainless steel M1 Abrams is 460grams whereas the aluminum is 150grams.

Basically, you get a more mechanical/notchy feel with the aluminum whereas you get a smooth feeling with the Weighted shift knobs. It's a matter of preference for most people.

The Stainless steel tends to be slightly more subject to temperature extremes. Also the Aluminum shift knobs are not available in different finishes (only an aluminum finish). So if your looking for satin or gun metal (like the OP), the stainless weighted shift knobs are your only option.

Sorry I missed the second part of your question the first time I read it. You just use the corresponding die 8x1.25.

Also, did you cut off the thinner section of post? Or is that the part you threaded?

No cutting at all. In fact I can still go back to stock because the threads are just cut on top of the shaft, the hole for the pin is still there. Mine sits a bit lower than the image above.
