I used an XC70 this morning as a loaner and the turbo would whistle ( I assume it is the turbo) from very low rpm.
Is this whistle normal or is it a belt or something
I will ask them I am just curious. My XC70 never whistled this much

Not sure if it's the turbo if you're saying at very low RPM's....could be the secondary air pump. These seem to whistle, especially if it is cold, and btw, it's usually a sign that they are starting to go out.

Re: (MadeInJapan)

Some turbochargers do whistle more than others. Mine sounds like a police siren at about 2,100 to 2,300 rpm. Has been doing that since day one.
Yannis

Re: Turbo whistle on XC70 versus other models (airprakken)

It is some thing to do about being cold. When I returned it, it was warmer
almost 50 Deg F here and it did not do it. So I do not think it is the
turbo but something else.
The loaner had only 9000 miles on it and if it is the secondary air I hope they do not start to whistle and begin to wear all the way that early
Thanks for the comments Made in Japan
