is it possible to just bolt on a bigger turbo to my 04 2.5t awd s60? i know im in danger of blowing some parts if i turn up the psi too much. Is there a type of turbo that i can directly bolt on and have no problems?

Get a "chip tune" from BSR or IPD if you're looking for the next step.

The problem is, you'll need a chiptune to utilize the new turbo anyone. If all you do is put on new hardware, the ECU will still only "allow" the same boost as stock. You can't just stick a Boost Controller on these cars, the computer will go into limp mode.

if your going to spend money to get a decent gain from a bigger/better suited turbo, ur gonna have to do pretty much upgrade everything else too. Fuel's going to be upgraded: injectors, fuel pump. A tune's def going to be needed, including dynos. and if you have AWD...good luck finding an AWD dyno in michigan. if the turbo's adding that much of a boost, pistons/rods/blueprinting/sleeving is going to be needed to not compromise the reliability of the engine. If this was a ricer integra(which i used to drive in college pos imho but did the job)or civic, then boost away, b16/b18's are plentiful, ours are not. as said before, it's a volvo...don't take shortcuts

It will make a very noticeable improvement, especially since you already have intake/exhaust.
