Hi everyone... Does anyone know if there is a way to get that sound some other turbo cars make when they suck in the air? A friend of mine has a '90 Eclipse, and he was able to remove a silenser in the mass airflow sensor and it made it much louder. Is there something similar in Volvo's? I have a '95 850 T-5. Thanks.

My friend has a '86 740 Turbo and he opened up the air box and removed a lot of "sound dampening stuff" and his is really audible now.

Given his car has 215,000 miles and he doesn't take the best care of it, and I am not 100% sure that what he did was a good idea. It did however make the turbo noise come through
Try it at your own risk.

Is having a cone filter a big problem on hot days? I'd love to put a cone in because it sounds great, but i'm worried that the heat will cause problems. Any ideas on how i could make some sort of heat shield, or any other way to get around this.

Thanks,
Greg

There is a bunch of cold air components for sale on this web site made for the mighty 850. Either pick up something from here or use it as a model to fabricate something of your own. It still should draw colder air into the engine than an airbox but a heatshield is probably a good idea. Maybe not completely necessary though, depends on the location of the filter cone.
Check out the Hyper-filter with a carbon fiber heat shield - pretty trick! The hyper-charger looks cool too, has a high speed turbine that sucks more air in like a ram air system! *drool*
