My wife just called me and said the temp guage is not working, and there is no turbo boost. Are these things related in any way? The heat does work and she shut the car off then on again with no effect. Are the thermostat and wastegate connected in some way like a fuse or relay? Any help appreciated...

no.
if you aren't getting boost, you have disconnected charge pipe somewhere.

Car needs updated sensor or software revision or both.
They ARE related, and it is the same problem. Quick (30 minute) fix. Can do while waiting according to most guys here.

If a temperature sensor is broken it can give an extremely low reading to the ECU, something like minus 40 degree. With these temps I don't think the ECU will allow the turbo to spool that much so it will probably prevent the turbo from delivering boost. There are a few ways to do this.
But this has nothing to do with the mentioed issue...
There is a TNN about the gauge/boost issue

Quote »

"to resolve this concern upgrade the engine managament software using the ecm upgrade option in VIDA. use software product number 30677021 (ecm upgrade)"
-TNN 28-67
this is repairable by software alone

aparently "OUT" of the loop.
im sorry when i think of no boost, there is only one mechanical reason---> its leaking somewhere. even if the wastegate is kept open, you will still see a little bit of boost, or so the case on the t-25 on my saab.
man i hope i don't encounter this problem...

Re: (phuz)

On my 04 V 70 R , that zero boost came from an overcrimping of the clamp on line to wastegate. Completely severed the line. There were NO CODES
Senilesurfer

Re: Turbo not working... (Dashdog)

For anyone who cares, it was just the software fix. Thanks again, and double thanks to everyone who restrained from blasting me for not doing a search.

Re: (JRL)

JRL,
Apparently I didn't make it clear. First of all, it DID happen. Second, there was NO crimp of the line. The overcrimped clamp SEVERED the line. Saw that with my own eyes, also the lack of codes.
Car ran fine for about 160-170 BHP worth
Senilesurfer
